This has ALMOST everything. It plays radio,you can record from the radio, you can record a conversation in the room. You can plug it into any computer like any other USB stick and us it for downloading music AND transfering data files from one computer to another. ALl this for under 70 bucks. I only wish it was a little louder.

The Little Red Audio Book Engine That Could [Posted on 2008-08-13]
I've owned three of these and bought a few more for friends and family. This sturdy little player is my listening center for audio books while I commute to work, drive the kids to the mall and walk my dog, Jasper, each night. If I could find some tiny, unobtrusive headphones, I'd use it during staff meetings at work, too. (Don't get me started about staff meetings.)
The main positives: It is quite easy to organize folders of audio book files on your PC and move them to and from the player. I rip CDs at the lowest sound quality setting to save space--works fine for audio books--and append numbers ("01-", "02-", etc.) to the top folder for each book to sort them in the order I want. I also like that the USB connector is built into the player. Impossible to lose is good.
The controls and small screen interface are easy to use and offer a good range of options and sound control for an audio book listener. I invert the display because this lets me hold the player in my left hand (dog's leash in my right) and work the controls with my left index finger. If your hand or finger preferences differ, you can configure the player to match them. You can quickly master the three buttons (volume up, volume down, pause/power off) and lever wheel control (for fast forward, rewind, and access to the menu options). In winter you will appreciate doing most routine listening adjustments inside your pocket without needing to look at the screen. (Your other hand on the dog's leash will still freeze--no helping that, I am afraid.)
The "extras" of FM radio and sound recording work well enough for infrequent use. It's good to be able to listen to breaking news while out walking. I have also recorded both meetings and interviews with good sound quality using this little tool. Probably ideal for surreptitious recording, too, while others think you are zoned out on music, but that's just speculation. Never done it. :)
Some negatives: The earphones just aren't that good. Give them to a friend who has different tastes and buy some of those cheap blue ones that wrap around your ear with the speakers facing forward rather than inward. Good sound and you can credibly argue that you "CAN TOO hear traffic noises" when a concerned officer pulls you over. The ticket savings will more than pay for the new earphones.
There is a little metal loop on the top that allows you to attach a strap and wear this player around your neck. Don't do it! Over time, the weight of the player will cause it to crack down the middle. This happened to one of mine after 6 months or so of daily walking. I suspect it would have cracked much sooner had I been running. If you keep it in your hand, your pocket, or use the armband you can avoid this problem completely.
Some advice: They are not making these anymore and the "new versions" aren't as good. Buy up a few extra on eBay so you aren't forced to something inferior when yours finally wears out. If you think you need more than 1 GB of space, use two of them. This avoids the more complicated folder nesting requirements of the 2 GB model and allows you to bookmark two reading projects, one personal and one professional.
If you buy one of these and live near DC, Jasper and I will probably walk right into you some night while we are listening. Sorry in advance--and happy audio booking to you!
EASILY PLAY MULTIPLE FOLDERS of Music and Talk, Detatchable FLASH DRIVE [Posted on 2008-08-17]
Bottom Line --- My Creative can play multiple folders of Music and Talk Audio copied over from my PC easily, with a built-in detachable flash drive which also runs mp3, data and your own installed programs on any PC you have available.

* I relaced it with a SanDisk Sansa m250 2 GB MP3 Player w FM -- The Sansa is NOT useful for TALKING AUDIO with Multiple Folders, especially my required Sorted Play Order. The Sansa brand is better used as a plan MUSIC ONLY Player
* I'm replacing my old Creative and NEW SanDisk with the less expensive version of Creative MUVO Mp3 Player, since it only last a couple years ... the PC would no longer recognize the Player.
The Creative has a detachable flash drive with built-in USB connector, which makes it convenient to use on the go with other PCs.
I am able to use it as a regular detachable flash drive for mp3, data and running programs that I've installed on it.
Apart from the easy use flash drive I liked the large number of settings that Creative has, particularly the fact that it sorts audio files by File Name and allows me to select individual folders (copied over from my pc). Most of my audio are lessons like Tony Robbin's motivational material or Vernon McGee's Thru the Bible Study CD Set.
I can just copy the folders from my PC and go ... then select a folder and it will play or repeat folders. -- It sorts by the same file name as on the PC. I don't have to manually edit the mp3 TAG and I can copy over and easily play Multiple Folders from my PC ... the SanDisk Sansa that I just bought CAN'T do this. SanDisk is for Music Only. Sansa should COPY the Creative brand usability features.

Good value for the price [Posted on 2008-11-11]
Bought this because I was tired of ruining expensive MP3's with bad weather, dropping, banging, and all the other forms of abuse I subject my MP3 players to during my outdoor pursuits. Works great! Sound quality is good. It is small and slender, fits nicely in a pocket. It has held up well and provided many hours of music under all kinds of conditions.
