15-DEVICE Universal Remote Control with LCD Touch-screen [Posted on 2006-11-04] Best programmable remote I have ever owned. Very easy to program, and easy to use. Highly recommended!
It performs its job very well. [Posted on 2006-12-20] I wanted to replace the following remotes: TV, DVD, VCR, CD, AMP/Tuner, AV REC, and a Digital Cable Box with DVR with a single unit and chose this one. End result.. I know have one remote.
Codes were available for all of my devices except the CD Jukebox but the search function worked nicely for that. All of the key functions on the cable remote were immediately available which was very nice. Only had to let it "learn" the DVR functions.
Needless to say, having this device learn all those remotes was somewhat time consuming but the instructions were clear and it did the job well. I didn't come across a function that it couldn't learn.
The macros were easily programmed and worked well once I got the proper sequence and delays (for instance, I needed to delay for a couple seconds after power up before having the AV Receiver switch to something or it wouldn't work). I also discovered that some sequences work better than others (e.g. the cable box likes to be last).
This would be a five star product except for some small things already pointed out by others such as the screen can be difficult to read and the touch screen can be unresponsive at times.
Overall, it does the job it was designed to do very well and for the price I paid it was an exceptional value.
Nearly Useless - It's Going Back [Posted on 2007-05-03] I suppose if you had the most rudimentary setup of a cable box, TV, VCR and DVD player, this remote might be worth considering. However, it doesn't work well at all with new TV's, sophisticated receivers, etc. This remote wasn't state of the art in 2004 when it was manufactured.
The buttons are pre-programmed, meaning you can only reprogram those buttons that have been assigned to a particular type of component. No new buttons can be added to a layout and you cannot rename them, other than by choosing between a couple of defaults already programmed in. I tried multiple times to give a button a custom name, save it and it would never show.
The real killer of the whole deal is the fact that it doesn't recognize the signals from my remotes, so it won't learn anything. I don't know if it's a defect or what, but it's not worth the hassle to find out. I'd rather spend the money and get a Harmony Remote that actually works right.
Good, but need light [Posted on 2007-05-29] It is a good remote and once programed, makes it easier with macros to turn on and set several A/V electronic items together. Main complaint is backlighting and writing on touch screen is very dim. Unless your eyesight is 20/20 or better {mine isn't anymore} it may be hard to read in some lighting conditions; particularly in brighter rooms. OK for the price I bought it for, but probably wouldn't pay over $60 for it as there are others which are now better.
Screen Blank [Posted on 2007-06-08] Thank goodness for Amazon, this product was dead on arrival but Amazon gave me a quick return and refund.
