Holy Crap [Posted on 2008-12-10] This sub is better than the one in my S550. The satellites are not mind blowing, the sub is. i dont see much of a diff from the sfx and loud settings. i have the volume on 100% so i can control it from my comp and receive the max if i desire it. the satellites are sufficient. on one note i do hear slight hissing from the satellites, very slight, only something i would pick up. but they def do give a hiss even wen u mute it. if ur comp fans make any noise at all u prob wont notice it. i notice everything. the sub is OMFG. i never thought id hear a sub more beautiful than the harman kardons in the S550. for $[...] this is best you could buy. on black friday amazon had them for $[...]. i was in disbelief when i checked altec lansing sold them for $[...]. i checked the manu site only because i check klipsh site and saw that they were the same price as amazons so when i decided i wanted these 2.1 instead i decided hey might as well check, and wala it was a little bit cheaper, but they were back-ordered. as u probably know, manu always costs more than amazon. oh well. a def buy. forget creative T6100, what do you need an extra 3 speakers for a comp.i dont have any room for it on my desk. Bose yeah a lil too pricey for just comp speakers. seriously these 3 together sound better than my 7.1 JBL set in the livingroom. Buy them.
SPEAKERS [Posted on 2008-12-12]
GOOD SOUND FOR THE PRICE, BUY IT...........
Very good! [Posted on 2008-12-16] Just bought these speakers for our bedroom flat screen TV. The sound is perfect for a small room. All the talk about the bass being too booming is way off. I found that the bass/treble was very easy to set any way you like. Did have a small hook-up glitch at first, but worked it out. I had bought a 3.5 to RCA cord at Radio Shack, as suggested by many. No sound. Called Altec Cust. Support and although they were nice and spent time troubleshooting, no sound. Then on a whim, I used the 3.5/3.5 cord that was supplied and hooked it into the TV headphone jack. SOUND! It is true that the wall mounts are unavailable. We are using set of 4' 5" tall candle holders to set the speakers on. Works perfectly and looks decorative. I highly recommend these speakers!
They Break Often [Posted on 2009-01-02] These are nice speakers when they work; unfortunately, there may be some quality control issues at Altec Lansing. In six months, I've had to return two sets of these speakers; the first was broken out of the box (bad right speaker jack), and the second set failed at six months (control pod that turns itself on; some kind of broken relay somewhere). Since Altec Lansing won't issue a label to send these back at their expense, my shipping costs are greater than the price of the speakers themselves. Good sound, bad quality, bad customer service. Not recommended.
$49 worth of sound [Posted on 2009-01-06] This is not a particularly great sounding set of speakers, but, hey, you don't get great sound for $49 (guess I caught them on sale). The intended use was to supplement the built-in speakers on my TV. One of the satellites developed an annoying rattle after being in use for a short while, so I discontinued using them, but am still using the subwoofer. The subwoofer adds a lot - a LOT - to the movie viewing experience. If you don't want to invest the money, or the space, for a regular surround sound setup, this is a good low-budget method to upgrade.
