Beats Apple Hi-Fi hands down! And works with iPod shuffle! [Posted on 2006-05-10]
I rarely take the time to review a product, but after what I've been through, Altec Lansing deserves a big thank you from me. This is an amazing iPod speaker system for the price! Believe me, I know. I made the mistake of first buying the highly-advertised Apple Hi-Fi, at $350. Then I brought it home. Yikes! The sound was so muddy that it sounded underwater. No highs, no lows - all the sound was middle range. And you couldn't even adjust the levels! Then I did some online research and found the Altec Lansing In Motion IM7. And it even worked with iPod Shuffle! By the way, I called Apple to double check that Shuffle compatibility. No, they said, the only thing that works with Shuffle is their own Hi-Fi. I had read otherwise online, so I went to the Apple Store to check it out in person. Right on the box, it said the Altec Lansing was compatible with iPod Shuffle, through the audio input (same as the Apple Hi-Fi). I made the exchange, and what a difference! I can now hear strings, tambourines, and other highs - and the bass rattled the windows! All off my little iPod shuffle! (Of course it works with all other iPod models, too, through the built-in dock.) It has more volume than you'll ever need - and unlike the Apple Hi-Fi, the remote lets you adjust Bass and Treble. And here's the kicker - it's $100 less than the Apple Hi-Fi. Don't buy into Apple's marketing campaign - this is the machine to buy!

A "must have" system...  [Posted on 2008-07-23]
The Altec Lansing iM7 is the "Lexus" of the MP3 audio systems. It's the one that forced Bose to go back to the drafting screen. Three years ago I gave the first "line dance" on one of the beaches in Aruba: The subwoofer made folks do a double take.

This device is a bit unweldy - the integrated handle barely gets the job done. With the 8 "D" size batteries it gets a little heavy, but its sound more than makes up for those inconveniences. It will "light up" any room! Buy!Buy!Buy!

portable theater [Posted on 2008-08-01]
Altec Lansing used to make a product called "The Voice of the Theatre". If you hook up an iM7 to your Macbook Pro, you'll have a great portable theater. BIG voice!

Just Awesome! [Posted on 2008-09-07]
The sound that these speakers put out is truly awesome. The built in sub-woofers give real depth to the sound. I love the way that the ipod fits into the system. There is a pop out door just like the old cassette tape decks used to have. I really appreciate the versatility of being able to plug into any auxiliary audio source using the included audio cable. At school, (I am a teacher) I plug into my computer when playing videos for students. Then when I am planning my lessons on my prep period I play songs from my ipod. If I ever needed to use it away from an electrical source, it takes batteries. I like these speakers because I like quality and I like versatility.
