Beware of poor quality control [Posted on 2008-11-15] Ugh. I got a lemon. The screw hole to attach the case was machined improperly and it cut clear through the side of the mount. So, I can only secure this with one screw. The label on the back peeled off and the AC adapter cord is too short to be of much use.
It's not even worth my time to send this back because I need to use it for a project right away.
Excellent Buy [Posted on 2008-11-16] Compared to other enclosures this is an excellent item. I chose to give it four stars because like all the others the case is not ventilated, no fan option, no auto shut-off. Someday there may appear an enclosure that deals with the heat build up. The problem seems to be that when you shut off your computer the drive in the enclosure continues to run and gets very hot; which concerns me about the effect upon the hard drive. There is a shut off switch on the item if you remember to use it. Otherwise this is as good as it gets for any enclosure that I have found. Presently I used three different makes and models of enclosures and this is definitely the best looking and doesn't lack in performance. I am well pleased with this purchase.
Antec MX-100 3.5" USB Aluminum Enclosure for SATA Hard Drive [Posted on 2008-12-01] Good product. The only minor problem so far that you have to turn on and off and then on again to let vista to detect usb device. Anyway it doesn't occur on a regular basis.
happy with it so far [Posted on 2008-12-22] I bought this and put a Seagate 1TB SATA HD in there. Works like a charm.
just my luck [Posted on 2009-01-04] I'm had bad luck with this one i was only able to use it 2 times. ! to format my 1.5 tb hdd and then to read another 500gb in my own pc but after that i keep getting "USB Device Not Recognized". I get the feeling it has to do with something about power cuz the usb cable has an "electric feeling" when u rub the tip. I tried contacting Antec about it but no luck yet...
