The smoke smells bad [Posted on 2007-01-08]
Been building computers for awhile now and this is the first power supply that has ever gone "pop" and then there is a lot of bad smelling smoke. To top it off, this was the 2nd He 550 I used. Going to go with another PSU from another manufacturer now.

Everything as it should be. Quiet, reliable, easy-to-install...could it be any better than that? Ok, it COULD be cheaper, but you get what youpay for.

Amazon promptly delivered above-captioned PSU, which was dead when plugged into MoBo.
Amazon promptly delivered a second unit, which was DOA. Confirmed status with a PSU tester purchased the same time I installed a PSU from a different manufacturer.
Amazon return policy is first-rate!
Antec quality control is non-existent.

Mine was also DOA. Wasted and afternoon trying to figure out what was wrong, then tested against known good PSU and everything worked fine.

I love this thing! Really easy to use and the Modular cables are great. I was lucky and had an ATX MOBO in my Dell so this PSU worked as an upgrade. Dell doesn't like to leave a lot of room in their cases so with the Modular cables I only have to use the cables I need, saving much needed space. Only cables that are permanently attached are the MOBO cables (20+4-pin, 8-pin and 4-pin) so you will be left with only extra cable. MOBO are either 4-pin or 8-pin and this PSU includes both so it works with either configuration. This PSU is rated to work with Dual/Quad Core systems.
