Purchased the item a year ago, wished I'd waited. once i begin having problems with the 604 I contacted customer service. the runaround they gave me was price less: first I needed the FedEx tracking number of the item I just bought from them, I explained the problem isn't tracking I have the item in front of me. However they would not help me unless I had the FedEx tracking number!
Well I told them hold on and checked my email and found the FedEx tracking number, they then wanted my serial number off the Archos, I mailed it in and got it back 3 - 4 months later.

I loved hooking this up to the DVR station and using it to record TVs shows and movies to watch on the airplane. Portable Wi-Fi access is also great. But after using it for a year, the battery is worthless. From a fresh charge, I only get 10 minutes. Very disappointed.

Has quite a few pluses going for it -- wifi, nice looking design, plays most formats, etc.
Also has a few negatives -- you have to pay extra to be able to play some very common formats, network connectivity is weak, browser will not work with some of the most popular sites, and the proprietary connector drivers me nuts.
The biggest issue is with Archos. They are so busy turning out the latest minor hardware revision, that they completely abandon their past products. Many of the minor issues could be solved with a firmware update, but these are few and far between for all but the most recent products. They are often out of accessories as well. This product started out good and had potential to be great, but they are more focused on putting out hardware revisions than on supporting their customers.

good product but wont hold charge anymore after 1 year, so i can only use it in docking station, bought another new battery and had same problem

In order for this device to play all video formats, you need to buy additional software from Archos. $19.99 euro each. What a rip off!!
