Horrible 1-Year experience [Posted on 2008-04-27]
I bought this unit to interface with a Vista powered laptop. First, the display resolution is TERRIBLE and Aero is not supported either. I stopped using my monitor through the Belkin docking station.
Second, this device functions only as a USB hub (a powered one only costs $25) and a sound card (great for hooking up a sound system to your laptop). Both of these functions work fine...BUT... it is impossible to hot-dock or hot-undock the ExpressCard/PCI-E. In case you're wondering, this means you must shut your laptop all the way down to eject/insert the card and reboot. If you've got vista, this takes forever. If you don't you risk corrupting your hard drive (done that twice - directly correlates to hot-undocking) and it will hang all of your applications (hard power-off required).
I have worked with Belkin's customer support for a year now and the experience has been painful. They've sent me factory-technician-tested units that still don't work (after I sent them mine first waiting several weeks without it). They have admitted to a hot-docking problem but suggested that it might be better with Vista-SP1 (it isn't, I have it now - it is a Belkin, not Vista or PC issue). Belkin Customer Service will not talk to Technical Service or vice versa so to get another department involved (like to get your shipping refunded or to involve a technician who doesn't expect you to unistall every piece of software including the operating system each time you call) you must start all over from the beginning. I've done this several times now.
My suggestion is to buy a ExpressCard/PCI-E sound card (under $100) and a powered USB hub ($25) and SAVE YOUR MONEY!! I won't even sell mine - I am tossing it away in order to prevent anyone else from the headaches this device causes.
