Belkin iPod 5G Caribiner Case Black -wortghwhile [Posted on 2006-07-20]
It's a little odd in construction with the wrap around strap but it does a nice job of protecting the unit. It also flips up into a nice stand for screen watching. If you have a 5G video iPod this item works very well.

Meh. Still waiting for someone to make a decent case. [Posted on 2006-09-17]
I bought this case for my 30GB iPod video, and it seemed like a pretty good case...which is exactly what it is, a pretty good case. Not the best, not the worst, it does protect my iPod where it needs it (the screen, the clickwheel), but there are some MAJOR faults with this case overall.

1. My biggest complaint - why in the HECK would you put a METAL CLIP at the bottom of the case? I am completely baffled at the fact that there is METAL on a case that's supposed to protect a $300 piece of easily-scratchable METAL equipment. Also, the fact that it's on the bottom next to the docking port...well, that's just ridiculous. You have to slide the iPod in at the bottom, and every time I take the iPod out/put it in, I make sure to pull that metal clip far away from the iPod so it doesn't scratch it. I actually bought this case in a store, so the metal clip on the bottom wasn't easily visible; if I had seen it, I would never have bought it. I do use the kickstand "feature" with this case, and everytime I slide out the iPod to fold down the top portion, I just know one day that metal clip will make contact.

2. The clickwheel cover is hard to use at first - you really have to push down, but the case does protect the clickwheel. After a few days, you tend to get used to pushing down harder, but what's most annoying is trying to adjust the volume - if you don't take your thumb off in a straight upward motion, it will turn the volume back up/down, as a result of the plastic moving back along the clickwheel (because you have to push so hard to begin with, moving the plastic).

3. The sides at the bottom of the case are open, more than likely so you can pull the iPod out of the case easily. I don't know about everyone else, but I want a case that completely covers my iPod. I had checked out the skin-like cases, but I couldn't find one with a screen protector (!). As a general rule, I just don't like exposed areas that can be easily scratched.

4. I haven't had a problem thus far with particles/dust getting up in the case and scratching the screen - that's the one thing this case seems to do well.

Overall, my general feeling about this case is, "Meh." It's not the world's best case, but I'd stay away from it solely for the metal clip at the bottom (that is, unless you like your iPod scratched). It's something to put on your iPod while you look for a better case.

GREAT (If you happen to have an iTrip - if not, still good.) [Posted on 2006-12-01]
I had a Marware sports sleeve that was really annoying when trying to do anything except jogging with the iPod. As a result, I didn't use it, and my iPod got quite scratched up. I bought some clear overlays and the kickstand case to avoid any further scratches, and I love this case.

The kickstand feature works well for videos, though I honestly don't watch many on the iPod. The snap-strap on the bottom keeps it secure while allowing easy access to for a USB cable or FM transmitter.

The click wheel cover does take some getting used to, but I haven't had any problems with scrolling/volume (since the first few days)as mentioned in other reviews. The cover may seem to thick at first, but that means good protection, right? I should mention mine is a 30 GB model, so it may be more of a problem with the thicker, higher-capacity versions. As for the complaint about the metal hook scratches, I could definitely see that happening. I think I've only taken the iPod out of the case once or twice in the two weeks I've had it, so I wouldn't know. Either be very careful when removing the case, or do what I did and buy some protective overlays.

**For iTrip owners/potential buyers: I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the strap fits around Griffin Technologies' iTrip FM transmitter almost perfectly. If you have one, you'll know that the iTrip slides out easily. This case fixes that problem-just loop the end of the strap over the metal hook at the bottom, instead of snapping it on the back. It might still slide out just enough to interrupt playback, but less frequently. The only drawback is that it covers the frequency display, but you rarely need to see it anyway. If you have an iTrip, get this case!! It may also work for similarly-sized transmitters/remote add-ons.

To summarize, I gave it a 5 star rating because of it looks great and is perfect to use with my iTrip. If I didn't have the iTrip, I would still give this case 4 stars for its versatile design and protection. It is the only case I have seen that protects both screen and click wheel and comes anywhere near the design standard set by the iPod itself.

Can't stand this [Posted on 2007-05-27]
I received this item as a gift. It doesn't hold the ipod well while in the kickstand mode. The bottom strap must be removed to access the lower port. To set it up in kick stand mode, you need to remove the ipod at least half way. Your movie will kill the battery before the movie will end, and there is no way to charge while watching with this case in kickstand mode.

does what it is supposed to. [Posted on 2007-08-26]
I like it. The plastic part is thick enough to protect the display, and it converts to the "kickstand" display with little effort. I also like the heavy duty clip. I hang it from my belt loop, car mirror, etc.
