Okay for the money, but... [Posted on 2008-10-29] It's very reasonably priced, and the cheapness shows. It works okay, but I wouldn't recommend it as the alarm clock you use every day, especially if you use the sounds. The sounds, especially the white noise, are not great. I use the white noise to sleep, and I can hear individual sounds - clearly - in the overall noise. Unless you only use it occasionally, I would recommend spending more money and getting a higher quality product. If you only need an alarm clock and the sounds won't be used much, it's fine. The look is nice and the blue glow of the numbers is okay, too.
Great for kids' rooms and for travel [Posted on 2008-11-02] This sound machine is perfect for the kids' rooms. They sleep great to the white noise option. I also love it b/c it is small enough to pack on a trip.
This is a really good product [Posted on 2008-11-21] This product has really helped my 10 month old to be a better sleeper. He was sleeping so lightly, my husband and I were desperately seeking a solution. I prefer the ocean waves or the rain sounds. I leave it on at naptime and all night long while he's sleeping. It does a great job of filtering out the household sounds of our other 3 kiddos. As another reviewer mentioned, the sounds are so pleasant, they are actually pretty nice coming across the baby monitor...I do wish it had a way to slow some of the sounds in order to make them even more mellow.
Don't Listen Here for White Noise! [Posted on 2008-11-23] I bought this unit to replace a more elaborate Hometics one which, although the sound generator was fine and the time projection nice, had no battery backup, a totally ineffective "atomic" setting system, and the unfortunate habit of setting itself to an incorrect time.
The old addage "If it seems too good to be true..." applies to this Conair machine. I had no problem with the brightness of the display mentioned in other reviews. And if I had wanted it to hear crickets chirping or distant thunder, it would be okay. But the white noise button brings forth not just white noise, but a clicking sound every second or two, much like the sound you get from a phonograph record caught in the last groove. (Perhaps it's not solid state, and there's a little person with a tiny phonograph inside!)
I would return it, but the cost of shipping and the time involved make it not worth while. Another truly disposable piece of merchandise. Reminds me of an old S.J. Perlman story called "Insert Flap A and throw away!"
Great sound machine! [Posted on 2008-12-01] I purchased this when Fall arrived, with the cooler temps we had to shut the fan off in the bedroom. I knew the little guys slept well with the constant hum of the fan running, so I hoped buying this would do the same thing, and it does! They love the water and white noise sounds the best...it helps them sleep and also drowns out the sound of the tv in the living room nearby. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a sound machine!
