Nice Unit! [Posted on 2008-07-31] Pros:
Shows one decimal place precision measurements of +3.3V, +5V, +12V, +12V (second rail), and +5V standby via a nice blue backlit LCD display.
Displays the time in milliseconds it takes for the Power Good signal to go high (this is open drain) on the LCD (3 digits).
Shows go / no-go voltages on SATA / 4-pin MOLEX / floppy connectors via green LEDs.
Cons:
I would like another decimal place on the voltage measurements, but this is just a tiny con as one decimal place is sufficient for the tolerances involved (+/- 5% & 10%).
SATA connector isn't keyed, but putting it on backwards shouldn't destroy anything.
It isn't obvious which way the motherboard connector goes on as it doesn't have the lock mechanism and is a fairly tight fit.
No manual, just slightly confusing minimal text on the back of the display card - not a big deal as this unit is really simple.
Other thoughts:
The unit I received has a power button on the front, which you have to hold depressed for the unit to operate. This makes sense as it must load the supply and heat up somewhat. They must have updated the design without updating the pix.
The go / no-go LEDs that everyone is crabbing about make perfect sense to me - the voltages themselves are already measured at the mobo connector.
Coolmax power supply tester [Posted on 2008-08-31] I bought this for my grandson who is taking computer science in college
The delivery was promt and he says that it works fine. He uses it in his computer repair work tah he does as a side line. He is very satisfied with the product.
Died after second use. [Posted on 2008-10-23] Mine stop working after second test.
Didn't came with any instruction manual or any instructions whatsoever.
In my experience this tester resulted in a low quality product.
I returned it for a full refund.
Thanks to Amazon, its service is awesome.
Almost worthless [Posted on 2008-10-31] This item (or at least the one I received) is almost worthless because the power supply main plug will not fit into the tester, the tester socket is too tight. I tried for 15 minutes antil my fingers got sore. They could have spent 50 cents more on a better socket, but they didn't. You can test molex and sata power connections but you can't test the main motherbord connector which is the primary reason to buy it.
Bad [Posted on 2008-11-18] I give it 2 stars because the lower digits didn't work. The lower digits are suppose to show you the +12V but it wasn't showing any known numbers,it was showing unknown characters. Besides this the device was constantly beeping (why?). Don't buy this product it's not worth it.
