Customer Reviews:

Piece Of Junk [Posted on 2007-07-31]
Don't fall for the hype. The Cambridge CD745 is a poorly designed piece of crap. The CD player has already begun to fail after just one month. The CD jams and won't eject. The tuner has poor reception. And the biggest laugh of all...is that it doesn't sound any better than a fifty dollar boom box. Poor quality....poor performance. I tried calling Cambridge, but they acted like I was bothering them. Bad product, bad company. Do yourself a favor and buy something else.

Quality Product [Posted on 2007-10-18]
Disregard the previous reviewer's poor review of this product. He had also reviewed the 740 model and gave it a bad rating. Apparently, it was so bad that he went out and also bought the 745i model.

As for the product itself, I love it. I bought the black one for my room and a white one for my daughter's room. The sound is impressively powerful and clean. And I love having the iPod dock for it. I charge my iPhone on it every night while my wife and I go to sleep listening to music with the sleep timer on. In the morning we awake to an FM radio station with absolutely perfect reception. The only complaint I have at all is that the digital display is a little small. It's difficult to see the time from a distance.

Amazing sound! [Posted on 2007-12-20]
Reasons for purchase were sound quality, compact design, neutral styling, better value than Bose wave music system

It is impressive what full and crisp sound this little box can produce. I didn't think this was technically possible to generate out of this compact design.
In my case the unit sits on the kitchen counter facing the breakfast area and a midsize family room. The volume easily fills the room. As a matter of fact the sound is most amazing in the stereo wide mode at a distance of about 10-12 feet.
I prefer the simple styling over the flashy looks of many boom boxes these days.
A minor disadvantage is the built in FM antenna in the power cord. For best reception the manufacturer recommends to lay out the cable for several feet. Well, I have an outlet right next to the unit and don't want a long cable lying around. However, I have not had any issue with the reception in my location.
I have been using this product for 2 month.

Repeat Cambridge Customer [Posted on 2007-12-25]
Have no idea why one "reviewer" posted "Piece of Junk"... I've had my Cambridge for about 3 years now and am SUPER satisfied... I have auditioned the Bose system and it has nothing on the Cambridge Soundworks... So much so that my wife has been asking to "inherit" the Soundworks so she can listen to her music while doing her chores, applying makeup, etc... So it was a PERFECT excuse for me to upgrade to the new Soundworks that incorporates the use of my iPod... Can't wait to get it... Don't fall for reviews that state junk...Like anything else, it is possible that one or two units may fail, but that is just one individual's experience witht the system... Take it from this 55 year old, been-there-done-that-got-the-t-shirt gadget guru and decade long electronic "freak"... I've tried many a piece of hi-end audio and I can testify that the Cambridge Soundworks is worth every penny!... It's like the new iMac 24 inch I bought... a friend sent me a "review" (more like an internet blog) that stated that the new iMac screens had a color drop-out problem... Absolutely nothing wrong with my iMac and more of an iMac fan than ever before!... Same case with the Soundworks... Long story short, don't hesitate one second to get one if you're in the market for good sound! Wait... it just hit me... the reviewer stating "Piece of Junk" must work for Bose... that's it!...Seriously, get the Soundworks (and NO I don't work for the company)...

iPod Nano 4th Generation Caveat [Posted on 2008-10-24]
Mine did not work with the latest (4th) generation iPod Nano (Cambridge unit ordered Oct 2008) - but does work with 3rd generation - so I kept it - was good enough - (so also question if will work with iPod Classic 120 GB (contemporary released with 4th generation nano)) - so if you need that functionality specifically ask about it.
