Customer Reviews:

Good player especially for audio books [Posted on 2008-05-26]
After reading the reviews here and on other web sites, I decided to give this player a try - and I lucked out when Creative Lab's web site has this (refurbished) on sale for $20 w/ free shipping in a one-day sale. I've had this for two weeks now and have been using it daily, and I love it.

I use my mp3 player mainly to listen to audio books, and I needed one that will play downloaded audio books that are protected. This player is one of the most affordable unit from the list of supported players for Overdrive Media, which is used by our public library. While it doesn't have bookmark feature, it "remembers" exactly where you stop and start at the same place (as opposed to the beginning of a track) when it powers on again - which is very important when listening to long audio book files. The use of AAA batteries is a key benefit also; my rechrageable batteries can last 5-6 hours. The player comes with 3 library folders (A-C) that you can use to organize your files - I am able to create sub-folders in each to hold the various audio books I downloaded, so you are not limited to just three lists. Once an audio book is loaded to the player, it doesn't expire like it does on the computer; with 2GB of space I can load up the player with books and take my time listening to them.

I did notice the plastic battery cover that slides on and off is rather fragile, and have taken note to be very careful when replacing batteries. The scroll wheel is not the best tool, especially when you hold it down one side or other to forward or rewind. If your finger slipped and let go, you may ended up in the previous or next track. With practice it can be overcome though.

I always invest in a protective case when it comes to electronic devices. The only cover/skin I can find for the Muvo V100 is over priced and from the reviews not very good. So I keep it in a knit mp3 player sock that has an attached hook; I carry it around my waist and can easily get to the buttons, and there is room for an extra battery inas well. I would suggest everyone to do the same.

Overall it's a great player and excellent choice for anyone who doesn't need advanced features (video, radio...etc.) Highly recommended.

Happy customer [Posted on 2008-06-10]
I bought this player for my mother after I was so happy with my older model. While most of the features of this one were similar to mine, it was very useful not have to keep track of wires to hook it up to my computer to load music. Simply slide the cover off and the USB is right there!

Neither my mother nor I needed anything too fancy in an mp3 player. We just wanted simple drag-and-drop functionality to get the music on it and to be able to see the names of the songs on the player itself. I love that I can separate the genres into folders and switch between them rather than just having a whole mish-mash of songs in one big folder. That's very helpful for audio books too.

So as long as you're not looking for fancy features, this is a nice little unit! I've had mine for over a year and my mother's had this model for about months with no issues.

good, slow transfer, hair inside [Posted on 2008-06-24]
I have used this little guy for about 6 months. It is my second MuVo - the first was 256MB one with FM radio. I don't miss the radio but I do miss the speed of transfer -- the new MoVo is sloooooooow. I do a lot of podcasting (no FM radio) and it takes far too long to move the podcasts to the player. AND there is a black hair across the screen -- yep, the manufacturing process has incorporated the hair into my MoVo. The hair does not impair (or speed up for that matter) the performance and is a nice conversation starter. One point off for the hair and for the transfer speed.

Small with lots of Memory [Posted on 2008-07-02]
I take this everywhere with me, so small, it easily fits in my pocket. If you listen to audio books and like to carry lots of them with you, this will fit seeral audiobooks, music, etc. (I have at least 20 audio books in mine and it still has a lot of room for more) I love this product.

It works ok, but slow, with stupid scroll wheel. [Posted on 2008-07-16]
I got this thing because it was cheap for a 2GB Flash MP3 player. I had previously used a 1GB iAudio G3, which I gave to my daughter. Wow, I miss that G3. It had a much easier scroll menu with a joystick, faster memory transfer, etc.

With the MuVo, the biggest drawback, not mentioned in any of the lead reviews so far, is that you can only scroll with this spring loaded wheel - the screen does not scroll in real time with you as you flick this button, probably because the flash memory or processer is REALLY SLOW, and so you can only guess at how many flicks of this wheel you need before you get to the song that you want. The menu on the LCD screen also only shows what is currently loaded to play, it doesn't give you a screen of several songs before and after like the iAudio.

So, scrolling through the menu to get to the song that you want is a VERY SLOW process on this MP3 player.

Transferring songs to it from your computer is also extremely slow - but others have mentioned that already.

Finally, also not mentioned so far, you have to install a driver to get it to even load any music from your computer. I only discovered later that you can load the Windows driver without having to load ALL of the MuVo software.

The iAudio G3 had none of these hassles, but, unfortunately, the 2GB G3 is not longer being produced, as Cowon seems to have stopped making any AA or AAA battery powered MP3 players.
