Decent little Unit [Posted on 2007-05-26] I bought my Vision:M for listening to music in my car. The TransDock Micro is a great way to do this. Setup is easy, just plug your Zen into the dock, plug your dock into your outlet and tune to the desired FM frequency. What impresses me is that there are very few wires to get in the way. It's a very clean setup with enough length for the player that someone in the back seat can go through your music library.
However I consider this unit as a stop-gap measure. I personally don't feel the sound quality is as dynamic as opposed to you using an aux cable straight into your deck. But until I update my car, this is good enough.
Pros:
Easy Setup
Very Few Wires
Enough Frequencies that you can find an unused frequency in a large city
Long cord for player
When you plug in your Zen to the dock, it automatically starts it up
Cons:
Sound quality not as good as a straight aux in cable
Annoying when traveling long distances and you need to change freqs constantly
If you order this product from Office Depot, they ship incredibly fast. I ordered in the AM, my box was shipped that day, and I got it in 2 days.
Works great! [Posted on 2007-06-02] I purchased the DLO 005-2020 TransDock micro for use with my new Zen Vision:M. I followed the instructions and it works great. I was able to locate an unused radio frequency in the Washington, DC, area and it works very nicely all over the city. The power adapter is a very tight fit - much tighter than my cell phone charger - in the power outlet. I did hear some static at one point, but it seems that the cable connecting the Zen with the TransDock functions like an antenna and, once the MP3 player was repositioned, the static went away. I've had it one month and so far feel it was a great purchase.
FINALLY I can play and charge my Zen at the same time [Posted on 2007-07-16] I have been waiting, it seems like forever, for someone to come out with a product that would allow me to both listen to my Zen in the car, while charging it. Previously on long trips, I could listen to my Zen, and then when it died, wait till I got where I was going, to then charge it via my laptop, what a pain. No, the sound quality isn't the best for audiophile like my boyfriend and I, but you get what you pay for, the option is to buy a whole new stereo system so that I can plug it directly in, I need to make a few payments on the car first. It is perfectly adequate, and I don't have a bunch of CD's floating around messing up my new car.
Quality depends on where you're using it. [Posted on 2007-08-08] I live in North New Jersey and I've found that the best frequency to use is the stock 88.5 FM. The sound quality sounds like a cassette tape, but after awhile you get used it. I just went on a road trip up north (into Canada) and the sound quality was much better in the rural areas. In areas where the broadcast range is not so busy, the Transdock works great and the charging feature is a huge plus. It's unusable on the NJ Turnpike for example where there are so many radio stations coming out of New York City.
If you're near a city, I think the DLO Transdock is a good stop gap solution until you can go all out and get a car radio with a direct connection for your Zen. I've seen the DLO go for $85 in a store which I think is way too much, Amazons price is much more reasonable.
VERY WEAK SIGNAL [Posted on 2008-02-11] THE SIGNAL WAS TOO WEAK TO BE HEARD BY THE RADIO ON ANY FREQUENCY.
