I use this device to connect my iPod to my home stereo system. I have a 30GB iPod full of music and the artist and song lists only took about two minutes to download. When the remote-iPod sync is complete the remote displays the artist and song currently playing and you can control your iPod from anywhere in your house. The remote also allows you to access and adjust the iPod EQ settings and control the volume so you won't need separate remote to control your stereo. And the remote operates on a radio frequency, so it works from every corner of my house. The biggest drawback for me is the lack of album information -- the remote just displays artist and song -- so if you have multiple albums by the same artist it can take a bit of extra clicking to find what you are looking for. But overall I'm very satisfied with this product -- the remote offers much more functionality than the standard Apple Universal Dock system.

Okay... there have been some reviews here about how this unit is sometimes quirky or whatever... and I'm not saying mine hasn't needed an occasional reset. BUT... here are some things to consider. Here's what this dock will do that many others won't.
1) It is an IR remote. That means you don't have to be in the same room with your receiver to control your playlist. I have outdoor speakers, and can control the ipod from my patio easily.
2) Because the unit displays information on its own screen instead of using your television screen, you don't have to have your TV on in order to see your playlist... Plus, if someone else is watching TV and your receiver handles two sources, as mine does, you can control your iPod from the patio while they watch TV uninterrupted.
I'd recommend this unit over any other I've seen. I've had mine for about 6 months and I've had to reset it twice (very easy to do). Other than that, it's been problem-free. It's one of the best choices I've made in my home audio system.
It seems pricey... but the unique features it offers set it apart.

DLO Homedock Music Remote
Purchased this back in June of 2007. At first it worked great with my IPod Nano. Hoewvwer as time whent on began to lock up and malfunction. When I upgraded to an 80G Ipod Classic it really began to have problems. Finally the remote just stopped working only 9 months after I bought it. No real customer support. It's possible the rechargable battery is dead but is harwired in, so there is no easy way to replace. I have ordered a Philips SJM3151 to replace. The remote uses replacable batteries, will work up to 300 feet with the dock, and is programable for six other units (TV, Receiver, Cable Box, DVD Player, Etc.) Will write a review after I have used it for a few months.

The remote didn't work from the start. Checked the signal strength per the manual and none detecked. Therefore, the display continuously displayed Out of Range. As you see from the other reviews, any product that has this low a quality control doesn't belong on the shelf.

Product works well, a bit slow to synch with remote with a full ipod at 8 G. That is a larger disadvantage than it could be, since everyone at my house has an ipod and we want to share the doc, which is in the gym.
Otherwise it is as promised and as delivered.
