NOT FOR OFFICE USE [Posted on 2006-07-24] Like many other reviewers, I bought this unit with the intent of being able to play my ipod softly while working. However, there is not "soft" volume on this at all. If your in a quiet office, it is much too loud to even turn on. Everything else about the iBoom is good and I'm keeping it because overall I am happy with it and will be able to use it on my deck, at the beach, or in the kitchen. But if your looking only for something for the office, do not buy this, look for alternatives.

returned for something better (avoid) [Posted on 2007-01-10] you get what you pay for... even less in this case. Ipods(of all sizes) don't fit correctly without shimming one side in order to get speaker output from both sides. Also, the fm reciever is weak and there is no antenna to fine tune reception.
Please avoid... this product is not worth the money
Happy [Posted on 2007-01-15] The I-Boom has great sound for the price and size. My only complaint is that there is not good resolution at low volume levels.
Great for what it is [Posted on 2007-02-23] I was given one of these a year ago, and was initially disappointed, because there was an audible ground hum as soon as I turned it on. The hum wasn't noticeable during loud passages, or when there was background noise, but it was definitely there between songs and during very quiet passages at low volume. I returned the original unit, but found that the replacement had the same hum.
However, I did find that the unit sounded good at moderate and loud volume, and gets tremendous FM reception. Its easy to carry, and produces surprising volume for outdoor use. As a cabin/pool/bbq/outdoor boombox, it would be hard to improve. The hum disappears in the presence of background noise, and the sound quality is good to very good at high volume.
Long story short: If you're looking for a portable and affordable way to listen to your iPod outdoors or for casual background listening, this is the ticket. Its perfect for the pool or the cabin, and the great FM reception is very nice. At this price level, you can take the iBoom places you wouldn't take a more expensive unit.
On the other hand, if you're an audiophile or want to do a lot of critical listening, this probably isn't the unit for you (but you knew that already, right?).
