sounds great..but looks akward [Posted on 2007-12-27] Compared to other well known brands like Sony and Sennheiser, these cans
1) sounds great
2) but looks akward .
I used HD202 before which has closed earcups, so they dont touch at the center of the ear(they partially touch at the periphery of the ear). But SR60 cramps you all over the ear..and you feel like getting them off after every 5 minutes.
I prefered SR60 after reading the review at headphone.com where they call them best sounding headphones under $100..agreed. they sound great.
But for me aesthetics is quite important too..SR60 scores 0/10 in that aspect with cheap plastic all over and cord as thick as 1/3" Dia (so ugly looking). Coupled with unease of use(cramp ur ears), I dont recommend them.
Downright humiliating [Posted on 2008-01-17] These babies are good! I'm serious about listening, and own speakers and electronics that (cough; gasp) cost as much as a good car. Thus it is downright humiliating that the 69 buck Grados bring me closer to the music than my elaborately optimized, expensive sound system. Don't misunderstand; the huge stuff is better, but balanced, extended, refined, realistic music inside your head from the Grados is just something else. I use the SR60's with my iPod and they match perfectly. They make every earbud and street 'phone I've tried sound like horsepuckey. Play new SR60's loud for a few hours to break them in (but *don't* wear them; got to protect your ears), turn the volume down, give the headband a stretch for comfort, put on the doughnut cushions (L-cush) for spacious imaging, and relax into one of the great bargains in all audio. I've no connection to Grado, incidentally; just a long-time listener.
Great sound, but not necessarily practical [Posted on 2008-02-25] I bought these headphones about three weeks ago from Amazon. I am extremely impressed with the sound quality-- it's really unbeatable; however, I have some complaints about this product that may apply to you, as well:
1) They feel "cheap"-- they're made of pretty flimsy plastic, and the ear-foam is definitely not durable (as other reviewers have stated). Given, for the price, I didn't necessarily expect leather.
2) The sound, like I said is fantastic, but these are definitely not noise-canceling AT ALL. I thought that I would be able to turn them up loud enough to drown out background noise, but this is not the case. Further, when I turn them up, everyone around me can hear word-for-word what I am listening to. I just got back from a trip to Europe, and I felt really self-conscious on the plane while listening to these because they're so loud to everyone around me! You have to keep it at a really low volume for people not to hear, and at this low volume you can hear everything around you (irritating).
3) One more minor complaint: the cord is really long, which makes the headphones rather cumbersome to listen to around town with an MP3 player.
OVERALL, I would recommend these-- it's a great value and sound, but I kind of wish that I had just bit the financial bullet and purchased some nice noise-canceling headphones.
Good sound [Posted on 2008-02-27] At first we thought product was defective but upon further examination the iPod we were using has an crappy connector and these headphones work great
Iffy [Posted on 2008-04-07] Im have not been overly impressed by these headphones. I bought them thinking that they would be a serious upgrade from my previous earbuds (which are more likely to do long term damage to your hearing and those little buggers will NOT stay in your ears). Basically I thought that by buying higer quality headphones I would be doing my ears a favor both safety wise and in respect to the enjoyability factor... ummm not so much. I have been underwhelmed by these headphones. The volume does not go up high enough for my liking and the shape is too bulky (it doesn't travel well). Look I wasn't in it for the fashion (if you want to look hip DON'T by these headphones) but I was expecting some kind of trade off. Im willing to sacrifice style for substance but I found that these headphones had neither. However, I will say that the sound quality of these phones is quite good. Im willing to give them that.
