Good Bag for $40.... BEST BAG IN THE WORLD FOR $9.99 !!! [Posted on 2007-04-13] I just bought this bag direct from Griffin's Company website for $9.99 !!! I have been looking at this bag at prices ranging from $40 to $99 (for the Gecko version) since I bought the Apple Hi-Fi back in December.
I don't know if the price at the Griffin Site is a mistake or they are closing it out (no mention of that) but at $10, I almost bought TWO of them !!!
Protection & Portability [Posted on 2007-07-14] The iPod Hi-Fi sounds fantastic and is superior to any of the other "MP3 boom boxes" I auditioned, but its portability is somewhat limited by exposure, weight, and bulk. The Griffin Hi-Way Case contends with these problems nicely.
POSITIVES: It is both well-designed and well-constructed.
The design increases both Hi-Fi portability and protection during use. Once inserted, there is little reason to remove the Hi-Fi from this armor. The iPod Hi-Fi's built-in handles at each end work for short trips, but are a little slippery and leave the unit dangling and easy to bump or ding. The Griffin Case makes for better-balanced and protected transport. Its easy-to-grab centered top handle is firmly sewn to wrap-around webbing interrupted by spring clips at each end to increase tension and tighten the grip during moves. These clips also protect and lock the zipper ends of the flap. This zippered flap on the front allows access to the iPod dock and exposes a sand-proof, but not sound-proof screen that protects the speakers. A rubberized push-through grommet lines up perfectly with the powercord plug-in on the back. A large pocket on the flap easily accommodates the power cord. At each end of the case, a pair of small mesh pockets with elastic closures are enough to handle remote, cell phone, pager, keys, or whatever.
With an exterior of dense, ballistic Nylon canvas reinforced by webbing, a well-padded soft interior, and a rubberized, waterproof base for non-skid on most any surface, the Hi-Way case seems tough enough to last for many years. The zippers are welt-covered for protection from grit and seem equally durable und unlikely to jam.
NEGATIVES: When in use with an iPod, the flap pocket is upside down, making it unwieldy and difficult to access. An improved design might replace the outside pocket with an elastic-access pocket inside the flap that still kept its contents padded from the speaker grills. Also, it would be convenient to have a zipped, expandable pocket at one end, in place of one pair of elastic mesh pockets. That way, an Airport Express could be toted along as well!
Overall, the Griffin Hi-Way Case is high-quality product and very good value and I recommend it to any iPod Hi-Fi owner on the move.
Buy the bag. [Posted on 2007-09-15] Buy the bag. The Hi-Fi fits perfectly, is protected, easy to carry, and you have pouches for cables. Enough said.
Griffin Hi-Way Case for Apple Hi-Fi [Posted on 2007-10-17] Works great as expected. The Hi-Fi fits perfectly and no issues with sound using it in this case. Haven't taken it far, outside on the patio is about it, so I can't offer any opinions of travelling with it. I use it more as a protective case than a travelling bag. The 8GB 2nd gen nano I have fits through the case as well as the 80GB 5.5 gen video I have as well. The power cord fits through the opening in the back just as expected and there are a few pockets that I put the remote and 1 or 2 dock adapters in.
So, if you're looking for a nice case to keep the amazing Apple Hi-Fi safe and sound when you're movin' it around, I believe in the product here, you have found!
