Love it! [Posted on 2008-05-28] Looks great, sounds great! Very user friendly.
Only drawback is that you can only que up one artist or
album at a time.
Excellent sound, documentation lacking [Posted on 2008-06-05] Hi,
I am using the Go+Play as a powered speaker system with my Squeezebox Duet, i.e. don't use the IPOD dock feature so can't comment on that.
I really like this unit. The sound is very good with strong but crisp bass, and I was pleasantly surprised at just how loud the unit can go. There is no distortion at high volumes.
Only a couple of issues:
- The documentation is poor. The instructions for the remote are almost non-existent, and this is a problem because the remote has two modes (IPod and base unit) and it's not obvious how to switch between them. Also, my unit arrived set up so that only three of the four feet touched the floor, and there is no description of how to adjust the feet. (An email to HK support revealed the answer, even though they initially said the feet weren't adjustable - you have to use a torx wrench).
- No equalization adjustment. Not an issue for me, but I think some people will probably want to turn the bass down a bit, and that cannot be done on the unit - it would have to be done on whatever equipment you have attached.
Better than BOSE. [Posted on 2008-06-11] I was always under the impression that BOSE systems are the best, But after reading HK reviews, I finally ordered this one. I am glad to admit that HK is Better than BOSE. I tried the BOSE in stores it does have a nice sound clarity but HK is better. Many people have written about this HK player having high Bass, that is true. I read the manuals and it says that HK recommends to set the EQ on the iPod to "Off" or "Flat". I did that and it sounds amazing, I just love it.
Now, if I buy a Home Theater system, HK is on top of my list.
Great product. The picture on most websites including amazon.com is an old image, the HK that I got has the HK name in chrome and not printed. So it looks good with the HK name in chrome. I will upload an image of my HK so others can see what it looks like.
Also the built/handle feels very sturdy. 5 stars to this one.
Not tried the batteries yet, so cant comment about its portability.
Great Small Speakers [Posted on 2008-06-20] The Harmon-Kardon portable speakers are much better than I expected. For such a small system, the sound is excellent. Not only can you use them with your iPod, but they can also serve as speakers for your computer. They were easier to hook-up than my original computer speakers and sound much better.
Completely stunned... [Posted on 2008-06-26] This isn't going to be lengthy or technical...I think that's been done already. I rely on the reviews here at Amazon for just about every single thing I buy on-line. That being said, this is the one and only review I've ever been compelled to write myself. I was looking for iPod speakers for out by the pool (installing a new pool this season). I had two requirements - they needed to be adequately loud and they needed to sound GOOD. After many hours of research and indecision, I stumbled upon the HKs. The reviews alone were enough to convince me that I was making the right choice...now, after actually hearing the speakers - HOLY COW. If you can afford the extra $100, you can completely FORGET about the Bose SoundDock and go with the HK. I've never heard the two other close competitors (Altec Lansing iM7 and Apple Hi Fi), but enough other reviewers have compared all of them side by side...HK pretty much always comes out on top in the reviews. I love the design (a bit awkward with the iPod being horizontal, but who cares), I love the portability, the volume I'm afraid to even test at its max (it's that loud!)....and last, THE SOUND QUALITY. I've never heard anything like it. Clear, deep, rich, beautiful. Worth every penny...EVERY PENNY.
