Media Remote [Posted on 2007-10-17] I really like this remote and it is handy but if I want to use it in Itunes
It will work for a while and then all the sudden my Dell Media Direct wants a piece of the action. I don't understand why the remote seems to be tied in with dell media direct but it makes it impossible for me to enjoy this remote outside that software. Other than that the remote rocks.
Works well as advertised...sticks out of the slot though... [Posted on 2007-11-29] Excellent product for what it advertises to do. Works extremely well on Windows Vista. Highly recommend for laptops (needs the pci express slot for charging, guess that rules out pc's). Compatible with Dell Media Direct and Vista Media Center. Charges automatically in the slot.
Negative - Sticks out about half an inch from slot, shape feels slightly awkward in hand
Overall an excellent product for its advertised function.
Touchy [Posted on 2007-12-17] This is a great little remote, although in the first week since I received it, I've had to reinstall it 4 times. I've been using on a 32bit Vista Home Premium laptop.
It works fine with Windows Media Center. When playing DVD's though, there's no button that's the equivalent of "Menu" on a DVD remote.
Update 12/20/2007: Returning this item. I have to reinstall it daily in order for all of the buttons to function.
Great but no laser pointer [Posted on 2008-01-25] This remote has served me well for over six months. It stores within the card slot on your laptop, though it does stick out about 1/2". It recharges off the computer's power, so you never have to replace batteries, and because it works off Bluetooth you never have to plug in a dongle to the USB port. The only two things it lacks are the ability to control the mouse, and a laser pointer. If you are highly dependent on these features, choose a different device, but if you want a remote that is always with you for controlling media and/or PowerPoint this is an excellent device.
Works great but with a major flaw! [Posted on 2008-05-07] It works as a remote just great and seems to perform well with Windows Media Player and PowerPoint 2007 on my Windows Vista Ultimate laptop. The Bluetooth capability is nice and efficient so you won't need extra cords or even line-of-sight (very nice). But, the major flaw is that it sticks about 1/2 an inch out of the side of your computer which defeats the advertised claims of conveniently using this product "on the road".
This design flaw makes it almost impossible to "store and recharge" and is very impractical if you plan on traveling with it. If you leave your laptop on your desk at home, then you won't have any problems with this remote, buy it. BUT, if you need to put it in a back-top/bag you can either risk damaging your expansion slot/computer or the remote.
I suppose you can always leave it in a pocket of your bag, but then you have to constantly remember to grab it when you need it and hope that it is charged enough for what you need. I bought this remote for making presentations but I have to be mobile, and this remote is far from making that simpler.
VERY poorly designed, good product. If your laptop is a home-only computer that never leaves the house I would give this a 5 star and recommend that you buy it; but if you need to travel and be mobile I give this the 2 stars and suggest that you consider other products.
