Good price, good sound, middle-of-the-road noise reduction performance [Posted on 2008-02-26] I have been looking for a good pair of noise cancelling earphones to use at my cubicle at work. These have a bright, warm sound, and the sound is good whether or not the noise cancellation is on. In a low noise environment, these might only add noise when switched on. In a higher noise environment, they do reduce noise. They are on-the-ear and seem a bit tight on my head. They are also a little awkward to extend. The battery holder was difficult to open and the switch is also difficult to turn on/off. Comes with gold plated adapters for larger stereo jacks and airplane jacks and a carrying bag.
Excellent Headphones [Posted on 2008-02-29] Very nice headphones, specially for the price. Great sound. Noise reduction is not that great though, but the headphone sits very snugly over the ears and blocks out most of the outside noise as such.
Not As Good As Reference 410 Non-Noise Canccelling [Posted on 2008-03-15] I ordered the 510's to try, as the price was nice. I also recently replaced a pair of Reference 410s due to the fact that I broke a previous pair after 3 years of constant use. The JBL Reference earphones are accoustically the finest earphones on the market for an audiophile with a penchant for classical music with extreme high fidelity on an Ipod or other MP3 device. I use an 8G Ipod Nano Video, an 160G Ipod Classic Video, a 60G Creative Zen Vision M, and a Scandisk Sansa 2G. I take the bus everywhere, so I always have music on me at all times. It is extremely important to me that it sound outstanding.
The noise canceling pod for the battery is clunky, no volume control like on the 410s, and there was very little noise reduction over the 410's. I'll keep them for a long overseas plane trip, but so far I feel the 410s are the superior model all around.
Both the 510 and the 410 are a really cool design, which is what attracted me to them in the first place...almost as high design as the Bang & Olofsun models. They're small enough to not look obtrusive in public.
Bottom Line: Get the 410's!!!!

Great sounding headphones, but poor mechanical design [Posted on 2008-05-30] Pros: These headphones sound fantastic over a wide frequency range. The noise cancellation is good for the price. They fold up nicely so they're good to travel with.
Cons: Mechanical design is very bad. The noise cancellation DSP is housed in an external package that hangs from the headphones, which gets very annoying. The ear cushion comes off very eaisly. Worst of all, the left ear piece snapped off after only about 6 or 7 months of normal use. Very disappointing.
Frequent Flier's Best Friend [Posted on 2008-07-08] These were a Father's Day gift for my husband. He was thrilled to get them - he is a frequent flier and was going to fly the next day. He loves the headphones! These are especially suited for him as he sweats easily and these sit on the ear, not over the ear as most other noise cancelling headphones do. And the price was right!
