Customer Reviews:

I cannot listen to my music on these earphones [Posted on 2008-10-13]
I don't know what all the other people who are reviewing this are listening to, but the pair of headphones I received have too much bass, and very poor isolation for IEM's. I originally bought these headphones to replace my Sleek Audio SA-6's (retail $200) that I was planning to return upon the arrival of these because of the hefty price. Once these came though I realized that I could never be happy listening to my music on these earphones. Needless to say I kept my Sleek Audio SA-6's and am very happy with them so far.

I will not claim to be the go-to authority on audio quality, but what I compared these earphones with is with my home setup (Foobar2000[ASIO]>Auzentech Prelude>EarMax Pro tube amp>beyerdynamic DT880), and my portable set up (iPod touch 2g>Sleek Audio SA-6). Both of which have a very neutral sound signature. In comparison these earphones have too much bass, making both the treble and mids sound shrouded on bass heavy songs. Mids seem almost lifeless alongside the bass. Even the bass which is ridiculously strong is lacking in texture.

I know that it is unfair to pit $20 earphones against a $1000 home setup and $200 IEM's, however I also listened to my friend's Creative EP-630's and I was quite impressed at the sound quality for the price point (I won't go into detail about my impressions because this is a review for the JVC Air Cusions, but if you would like one feel free to leave me a comment), and these could be had for less than $30, probably even around the same price as these headphones. Not only that, but they have superior sound isolation and are much more comfortable in the ear.

In summary I only support buying these headphones only if you need earphones that are slightly more secure in your ears, or you are a bass head. Otherwise other alternatives such as the Creative EP-600 series would probably give you better bang for the buck.

Unbeatable (For the Price) [Posted on 2008-10-15]
These headphones sound great compared to any stock headphones that come with an mp3 player. The bass is really good and full!

Granted, these aren't +$100 headphones. Some mid to high frequency sounds aren't quite as clear. They get uncomfortable after I use them for long (over an hour) periods of time without taking them out for a bit.

And if you know you have weird-shaped ears and are looking for in-ear headphones, you may want to find a pair that has more than 4 sizes.

That said, if you're looking for a cheap upgrade from tin-can-like stock headphones, look no further.

great earbuds for a reasonable price [Posted on 2008-10-19]
When I ordered these I was a little worried because some reviews said they lacked adequate bass and volume. I guess those reviewers were deaf or had them in their ears incorrectly. These earbuds have good bass and I can't go above 50% volume on my Sansa Clip before they are blasting my ears off. If you have the right size of rubber earcushion on them and put them in your ears correctly they will perform well and keep outside noise out. Their shape takes a little getting used to in order to get them in your ear correctly the first couple of times, but after that you'll appreciate how the shape helps make them comfortable and seal well. They sound great and I would definitely buy them again.

Best buds for the price [Posted on 2008-10-23]
I have to say I'm impressed. I own a pair of Grado SR225s and Etymotic ER4-Ps, both of which go for about $200, and I'm used to high quality sound. That said, I was a bit startled when I first listened to these. They sound great. Also, the comfort is much better than my other 'phones. The Etys are also IEMs (In ear monitors) but getting a proper seal with them is more difficult and the bass is usually somewhat weak when I DO get a good seal. These JVCs go in easy, stay in, fit comfortably (I use the tips that came on them) and sound great. They've got plenty of bass and highs. The highs can be a bit sharp at higher volumes but I think they may smooth out after a bit of break-in. The mids are slightly recessed, but I think they also will improve with time. The sound isolation is good too. They block out a lot of outside noise. I keep having to turn down the volume on my Zen. I've never heard a pair of headphones that sound this good for only $30 (retail) and fit as comfortably. I'm VERY happy with these.

JVC Air Cushion Headphones [Posted on 2008-11-04]
I have a pair of Shure SE110's on my iPod Nano but was looking for a less expensive set to keep in my car for my SE Walkman phone. I tried out the Sennheiser CX300's. They did not fit well, but sounded OK. I could never seem to get them comfortable in my ear, no matter what silicone plug I used.

The JVC's fit well and are comfortable. I ended up with the foam plugs on the headphones to help with the sound isolation. They are much louder and I had to turn down the volume to use them. A decent amount of bass, but still seems fairly responsive to the mids. It just seems at times like a lot of sound thrown out all at once. But for the price, way better than the iPod original headphones!!! And better than the CX-300's that cost double this!
