good sound but mediocre noise cancellation [Posted on 2008-05-04] I was primarily buying these for the noise canceling feature. the sound quality is VERY good, and the noise canceling definitely helps dim the sounds around you but these headphones do not effectively shut out other people's voices or noises that might distract you from work. in the noise cancelation area, they are highly mediocre. on the other hand, the fact that they fold up is great and very convenient!
good for the price [Posted on 2008-05-13] Nowhere as good as Bose or Audio Technica, but does the job. I used my JVC phones on a recent transatlantic flight and it definitely made a difference in the quality of the flight. I would say that it cuts around 1/2 of the ambient cabin noise, allowing one to listen to music at lower sound levels. The over-the-ear design became quite uncomfortable after several hours, however. If price is no object, skip these phones for some more capable ones, but for around $30, it's worth the money.
2nd pair [Posted on 2008-05-27] I truly love these headphones. This is my 2nd pair;the 1st was given to a friend.I work in a very noisy environment.Working close to the machine, all I hear is a low hum.The music is very clear with my ipod or cd player.I recommend these headphones to everyone who does not want to wear ear plugs.Buy-Buy-Buy
Not worth it [Posted on 2008-06-12] When the sound getting through is the same if the power is on or off, what does that tell you? It means that the "active" portion is a hoax. Only reduction came from something covering my ears. Also not very comfortable. Couldn't use them on a long flight.
Not noise cancelling [Posted on 2008-06-17] As regular headphones, they're OK, as noise cancelling, they're useless. Barely any impact on reducing external noise. Also somewhat fragile, the earpiece on ours broke off after a couple of months--our fault, but not very sturdy construction.
