Bad interface, awful earbuds, Windows-only software [Posted on 2008-01-01]
This music player holds so much promise, but fails catastrophically in several ways, some specific to our situation and others that we are sure will be experienced by everyone who uses this unit.

I bought it for my son to use on his Apple iBook computer. Never mind that the included mini CD-ROM cannot be properly inserted into the slot-loading iBook computer (and almost wrecked the drive when we were foolish enough to try): The software is currently Windows-only. The software is unnecessary if you just want to transfer music files, but Mac users can forget about using the player for video--the software for converting video into the player's native format is also Windows-only at this time.

The earbuds were awful pieces of junk. Not only did they sound bad, but metal "pins" on the ends of each piece fell apart when he opened the buds for the first time.

When my son managed to transfer his music to the player, navigation was awful. He had to scroll through dozens of songs to hear the one he wanted to play. If there was a way to arrange the songs by artist, it wasn't immediately obvious from the manual or interface. By the time we gave the instructions another look, and learned that there is apparently a way to make folders manually, we were so frustrated that we gave up on this player.

This is all a shame, because the hardware seems to be beautifully designed--it has a lovely screen and a great deal of functions built into it. But this good engineering is trapped by poor software and execution.
