These have failed to work for me in every item where I have tried to use them. The problem was that they did not make electrical contact with the metal springs inside the battery compartment. If you compare these adapters with a real D size battery, you will see that the typical real battery has much larger metal areas for the springs to touch.
It's a nice idea and I'd love to find some adapters with a better design but these unfortunately fail the test. Buyer beware.
Awesome Lenmar D-Shell Battery Adapters [Posted on 2008-01-20]
I bought about 3 to 4 packs of these Lenmar D-Shell Battery Adapters for my touchless trash cans and emergency items. I love them. We have an emergency closet and had bought alot of Rechargeable AA and AAA batteries. We have alot of items that you can wind up such as Emergency radios and flashlights, but we bought the adapters to convert our AA batteries into D-batteries for backup. We also purchased a few packs of Lenmar C-Shell Battery Adapters for our Electric train and various items. We have saved alot of money by replacing all our regular batteries with rechargeable batteries.

They are physically squirrelly and may or may not work in the target device depending on weather they get a good seat.

So it's $6.99 for a single plastic shell? Seriously?
How many adapters come in a package? One, as the product description seems to indicate? Or four, as there are four adapters displayed in the picture? Or two as one reviewer stated he received?
Also, I seriously doubt that the weight of this package is "8 pounds" as mentioned in the product description. Are these adapters, like, from the future?

I bought these to use with my eneloop AA batteries. They do the job. It just sucks that shipping is more expensive than the actual items!! lol.
