Customer Reviews:

defective and poor customer service [Posted on 2008-10-08]
I purchased this Linksys WET54 Bridge for my boat and it was defective out of the box. Linksys was a pain in the keester. I was on hold or referred to someone else for two hours until they finally determined that it was defective (typical made in China junk). They would not replace the item, and insisted their policy was to require me to pay the shipping for its return. I returned it to Amazon for a refund and Amazon paid for the shipping. I'll continue to do business with Amazon, but I've bought my last Linksys product.

Not a bad piece of equipment [Posted on 2008-10-09]
I bought this when I moved into my basement apartment to avoid having to run ethernet cable from one side of the 3 bedroom ranch to the other side of the house. So far I am very please with the performance of the bridge. I normally get over a connection rate over 90%, which is normally higher and more stable than the wireless PCI card in my Mac G4 Tower. The setup was a little troublesome as the booklet they include is next to useless, but there are some very simplistic directions to be found online. Currently the device is attached to an Xbox360 for online gaming and I am very happy with the results and performance over-all.

Works, but not easy to setup [Posted on 2008-10-17]
Technically this product works, and once you've setup it will just do its job and you'll forget that you have it.

But to get there is quite the hazzle. The install instructions are incomplete, and whoever designed the product made a lot of assumptions about your environment, which is most annoying.

Unpacked the device - all the usual, device, network cable, power adapter, separate antenna, CD with software. Put everything together and installed the software, ready to configure the device. As part of setup the bridge needs to be connected via wired network to setup the WiFi parameters. But the software can't find the bridge and the error message is useless. Tried all kinds of things, no luck. A few Google searches later found out that the device defaults to a different subnet than my network is operating on. So had to go to my network settings and temporarily change my computer to a different static IP address and netmask to get the setup working. Then once configured, reset everything.

End to end to get it working, 1 hour.

There aren't many reaonably bridge bridges out there which support WAP encryption. But this is not a device for folks which aren't good with advanced network configurations.

died soon [Posted on 2008-10-24]
didn't configure out of the box. Had to call support.

It died in about 6 weeks. Linksys quality has gone straight downhill since they were bought by Cisco. Routers last about 18 months, and cable modems last about 24 months. This lasted 6 weeks.

It's fine [Posted on 2008-11-23]
I got my Linksys WET54G Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge v.3 today and it took me 10-15 minutes to set it up. I used "easy setup". I put my network name and security code in, restarted my bridge and router and hooked it up to my dishnetwork receiver. It's working fine.
