Poor image quality, bad positioning, buggy software [Posted on 2008-09-26] This camera has two big flaws and one minor annoying software flaw.
First, it is impossible to position the camera correctly. Ideally, you want a videoconferencing camera to be as close to "front and center" of where you are looking as possible, which means that with a flat panel it should be close to the screen's center. However, this camera only comes with a stand. Therefore, it's only practical to have the camera way off to one side. Result: you never look the other caller "in the eye" but always appear to be looking to the side.
Second, the image quality is fairly poor. Even just displaying on the local monitor, the motion lag is significant (i.e., I move and there is a clear lag until the image moves), and the colors are usually very washed out.
Finally, this camera has a very annoying software bug: it blocks Thunderbird upgrades. For some reason, it ties up a Windows file used for e-mail programs (that the Quickcam certainly does NOT need all the time) and this blocks the upgrades of Thunderbird. HUGELY annoying.
Good web cam but... [Posted on 2008-09-28] I've had this web camera for about a month now and I love it for basic web cam and video operations. It takes beautiful stills, and has a beautiful picture in video. The built in microphone works perfectly. However, I don't really care for the motorized face tracking. Though it is a very cool concept, it seems a little too under developed at this point, and will eventually be improved hopefully.
Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF [Posted on 2008-11-02] I purchased this Cam because it was recommended by SKYPE which was what I wanted to use to connect with my grandkids in Maine from our house in Michigan. This one was more costly than others available on the market. Setup was very easy, although the amount of instructions on how to do it was minimal. With a little fooling around I was able to get it to work properly. Downloading the required software from SKYPE was straight forward, but how to make a connection was not easily apparent. Once you do it, you don't know why it took you so long to do it the first time. One had to go thru HELP screens and then they were not too clear. Some instructions worked and others didn't. It probably depends on your computer. Mine was a Dell PC. Images received from Maine were relatively clear although movement caused a lot of blurring. I use a high speed internet connection rated at 5 meg and I am sure that if you had higher speed connections blurring would be less. Still images were best.j The capability of the CAM to follow a persons movement is a plus and does work well. All in all, I am very satisfied with the product and its capabilities.
logitech camera [Posted on 2008-11-02] this has been a nice camerea. Its been a way THAT IS DIFFERENT to communicate with my clients. Sets me apart. Have uesed it 50-60 times now and I'm very satisfied with it.
Logitech QuckCam Orbit AF [Posted on 2008-11-23] This is a great little product. Excellent video quality and pretty functional. I didn't read close enough but it only rotates 180 degress, i was hoping for 360...the face following works pretty well if it is just one user but more than that and it's unusable. I would like to see a camera that rotates 360 and is voice activated instead of face following..
