Good helpmate [Posted on 2006-02-05] If you can get one for a good price ($<15), it is an excellent add-on for the casual iPod user, although the number of functions will be too limited for many users. (I suspect the buttons on the remote would wear out for the heavy remote user.) It is quite basic in functions (volume, track advance) . The range of the IR seems to be limited to around 15 feet (medium room light level) and an angle of +-35 degrees.
Could NOT Get This Remote to Work [Posted on 2006-08-05] I bought this remote to use with my Ipod 20G with Clickwheel and, despite installing as instructed, I could not get this to operate. It fit the Ipod very well, so I figured I would not have a problem. I have also used Maxell products in the past and also haven't had any problems. The remote lit up, but it would not operate any of the functions when I pointed it at my Ipod. Maybe this is a great product and I did something wrong, but it is easy to install and mine would not work. I returned the remote to Amazon as defective and received a refund for it. Again, this might be a great product, but I wanted to write a review to warn other customers that I had problems with it.
Check compatibility [Posted on 2007-01-07] Thought this would work with my new iPod Shuffle, but no. Super deal IF you have the right iPod. I offered the two items as give-aways to co-workers, but I had a long line of folks who tried them on their newer iPods and failed to get them to work. If you have an OLDER iPod, you're likely to succeed with these.
Eh... [Posted on 2007-02-07] It works if there's a direct line of sight to the reciever. In other words, if the ipod is lying down horizontally, it won't respond. You'll want to use a dock or something else to prop it up vertically for it to work.
AWESOME! [Posted on 2007-03-08] I have been looking for a remote for my old ipod for a long time, did'nt think they existed. forward/ back to next song, pause, play, volume controls, fits in your pocket even has an input for headphones.
