Inexpensive iPod dock delivers on promises [Posted on 2006-12-01] I was wary about purchasing this item because I could find no formal reviews discussing it online, and the price was too good to be true. (The Apple-brand version of this device costs $99.) Now that I've hooked it up, I'm very impressed.
It's sound and video output work exactly as described - and the quality is quite good to my untrained ears. The dock, while not very sturdy or heavy, is beautifully designed & contains adapters for almost all iPod types. And of course, your iPod charges while it's in the cradle. (Via power cable, USB cable, or Firewire cable -- all included.) The only thing not included with this device is a S-Video cable, but that's not necessary for it to work.
The remote has a futuristic look with a clear blue plastic rim that lights up when you press buttons. Unfortunately, its usability leaves something to be desired with small buttons in a non-standard layout.
This device does not have on-screen display of music information (ie. current track, artist, album info) or navigation choices when using the remote. So finding the right song on your iPod is nearly impossible without walking over to the iPod and using its scroll wheel manually. To get such on-screen display, you need the Griffin TuneCenter or DLO HomeDock Deluxe (for ~ $130).
In short, this is a GREAT product for the $29 I paid. I only wish I had bought it 6 months ago!
Great dock for price! [Posted on 2007-02-01] This is a good deal at the low Amazon price. The only problem I had was the USB cable that came with the unit was defective. I used another spare cable and it worked fine. The remote is a little cheesy, but it does work. Some of the buttons have a weird symbol that takes some experimenting to figure out.
Soooo, overall this is well worth the price. It was compatible with my G5 60 Gb video iPod.
Not bad [Posted on 2007-05-15] I was wishy-washy as to whether I should get the unit with or without the remote and I'm glad I chose this one. The buttons on the remote aren't exactly easy to decipher but I just use the volume buttons anyway. Not bad for the price either. The blue light is a little annoying because it's always on but not a huge deal for me either.
Excellent for remotely controlling my ipod in my home stereo [Posted on 2008-02-29] In my games' room, I have a home theater and I was looking for a product to remotely control my ipod. When I found the Maxell one, I was hesitating on the possible quality and performance, mainly because its affordable price. For my surprise, the quality and performance are really good that I took that decision to buy a second one for connecting my ipod to my living room.
Good product and excellent price.
Just what I needed [Posted on 2008-05-04] I am brand new to the world of iPods. My wife bought me one. I wanted to be able to hook it up to my home stereo and to charge it without plugging it into the computer. This solved both problems and was affordable.
