Pretty good product, only one major drawback [Posted on 2007-07-22] I purchased this for my husband for Father's Day - he had wanted something we could use on our deck and we now use it frequently outside but also around the house, too.
We've had it for over a month now and I am quite happy with it - the sound is good, controls are easy, and it comes with a (tiny) remote that is useful if the iTrek is across the deck or room and one doesn't want to get up to change the volume or the song.
It comes with a number of adapters for various iPods and MP3 players so if you have more than one type, it will probably work for all your players. The carrying case is nice but does *not* fit the power cord inside - this is annoying as the biggest drawback is that the iTrek doesn't play long (just a few hours) on batteries. We've gone through two sets and have pretty much settled on just plugging it in - which is fine for us as we have power outside but if you're planning to play this somewhere you don't have power, I would recommend looking for something else. We also have trouble getting the spent batteries out of the player on one side (it has two battery slots). They get stuck easily.
We've found that the sound quality is good and the volume is also sufficient - we back up to a sometimes-noisy road and we've never had to crank the volume all the way up.
One other feature I really like - the player is very slim but the base has two "feet" that you can fold out to stand it up. They retract for storage.
The iPod dock has an open front which allows you to use the controls on the iPod during use, too - the iTrek controls can move you up or down the playlist or change volume, but you use the iPod controls for changing albums or playlists, or things like turning shuffle mode on or off.
Overall, I would recommend the player as long as you're primarily going to plug it in (which charges your iPod, too, nice bonus).
Great for Travelling [Posted on 2007-10-13] Bought this for my iPod from Target as Amazon was not yet selling the iTrek. The carrying case is excellent and allows you to play the iTrek within the case as the case comes with a prop-up stand. That is why it is so strange that you can not easily plug in the adapter while it is in the case! Go figure.
Having an FM radio is a nice plus especially if you want to get local news, weather.
The controls are easy to use, the sound quality is good, not fantastic, and has a bass boost for those that like it. I recommend it as a very good choice for those that frequently travel and would like good quality sound from their iPod without having plugs in your ears all the time.
