Excellent Receiver At This Price Level [Posted on 2008-07-30] I bought this receiver after purchasing (& returning) a Sony receiver that was broken right out of the box. I have never owned an Onkyo until this one, and I have been impressed. I primarily needed it to use with my HD-DVD player (replaced with a PS3) and my Xbox 360. I found the setup to be quite easy, and I used HDMI and optical cables. Yes, there is some confusion about HDMI audio, but I knew what I was getting considering the price level of this receiver! I have used the receiver quite a bit in the past 3 months since anytime I play videos games or watch rented movies it has to be on with my current setup. I have yet to have any issues with the unit, and I am very happy with my purchase. Is it the best on the market? Of course not, but I think it is the best at this price level. If you have $800-$1500 I'm sure you do a lot better, but if you just need a basic home theater receiver, I can recommend this unit.
extremely happy [Posted on 2008-08-03] i'm not an audio techy but this onkyo amp/receiver does everything i need at a great price.and amazon had it here to me on maui in a few days..i was amazed thanks amazon
great buy [Posted on 2008-08-09] this receiver is perfect for the money--sound is awesome--with the hdmi wires only one wire is needed--a big plus for me is the a/b switch that allows me to have music playing in the backyard while someone can watch tv inside.highly recommend
Not to shabby [Posted on 2008-09-29] It was relatively cheap and does exactly what it says it does. I do not have anything negative to say, I just wish it had more fiber and hdmi ports. Like I said though, it does exactly what it says...
AWESOME SOUND [Posted on 2008-11-01] I recently purchased the Onkyo TX SR505 and am very pleased with it. It has plenty of features for my appetite. I also have the Polk R50 speakers and the Polk PSW10 sub woofer. The Onkyo is perfect for what I need, I run everything into it and have just one HDMI cable going to the TV. The HDMI carrying just video is really not that big of a deal to me. All in all I have a pretty nice sounding system for under $500. Sure I could have spent more money but I really don't see the need.
