AWESOME FOR ART STUDENTS!! [Posted on 2008-02-29] This thing is big and clunky and obnoxious. It looks like you are carying an old school game boy around with you. But I LOVE that about it. I actually get complements on it all the time from all sorts of people! I am an arts major (Crafts to be specific) and I am always getting messy-- from painting to ceramics-- so I needed something that could stand up to my clay covered hands AND withstand the occasional tumble off my lap while painting. THIS IS IT.
I use it for my 80G classic and it fits great with a small spongey thing that pads the back to prevent slippage while inside the case. the cover for the wheel is a little bit of a challenge to get used to, but it is far better then the one i returned to best buy-- that thing was a JOKE!
I am also not the type of person that likes to use belt clips for things like this, but the belt clip actually comes in handy-- when I am throwing on the pottery wheel, I just clip it to the side of my apron, tuck the cord around the bib, and I go to town! (the clip is NOT however very good for the gym...)
All in all, this is a tad expensive, but far cheaper then having to buy a new iPod becuase of messy activities or just general cluts-y-ness. And you run a lesser risk of loosing it too due to the size!
I recomend this to art studens, construction workers, people who work outside and might run a risk of getting caught in the rain, clumsy people, etc.
Otterbox for Ipod 30g [Posted on 2008-05-14] Great product. Took with me on recent trip to Bahamas - kept the ipod dry and also worked great when I dropped it! No damage at all! The only downside is it adds a lot of bulk to the ipod.
Excellent Product [Posted on 2008-05-28] I'm a US paratrooper, currently serving in month thirteen of a fifteen month Afghanistan deployment. This case has protected my iPod from day one. I bought it about six months before we deployed to use for snowboarding after my CO showed me the version he had for his iPod. A few months of learning to snowboard with the iPod in my hip pocket being landed on over and over did nothing to this monster of a case. I'm a pretty big guy, and it took quite a few impacts of my bodyweight without any damage to the player. It's survived downpours on training exercises, the amazing amount of dust Afghanistan produces, and all the jolts and impacts of Army life. The iPod inside is pristine. It does make the player significantly larger; if I only used my iPod for indoor listening and didn't take it to any wars or mountainsides, I would probably go with a smaller, lighter, cheaper case, but for my situation, this case is perfect. The only con, really, is the inability to use the hold-switch without removing the player briefly. Not a huge headache, compared to the destruction this thing has survived. Definitely worth it to protect your investment.
RAN OVER IT WITH MY BIKE AND IPOD WAS STILL PLAYING! [Posted on 2008-06-13] I was speeding down a heavily trafficked city street trying to get to work on time when my otter-boxed ipod popped out of my pocket, jumped to the asphalt, and then I rolled over it with both mountain bike tires. When I went to pick it up, my ipod was still playing!
The only downside? I had to have it in my pocket because the belt latch broke after about 6 months' use, but I consider this minor--now I just put it in a handlebar bag and away I go!
Accident-prone, yet my iPod still works! [Posted on 2008-06-14] I've had an otterbox for my iPod for a year now and I love it! At first I thought its size was a bit cumbersome, but it hooks on the back of a bathing suit or sports bra (sorry, guys) and stays put. I can even fit it in a pocket, albeit a bit awkwardly. I used it last summer to swim in Lake Michigan, I used it in the winter in the pool, and I've had it out in the rain. I've dropped my iPod an embarrassing number of times, and this case has held up and kept my iPod in perfect condition. You would be hard-pressed to find someone who's been harder on this case than I, and it's held up like a dream.
