Outstanding! [Posted on 2007-11-12] Excellent ear buds that you have to experience! I thought the "noise canceling" feature was nothing but a gimmick...not true. When you're using these ear buds at a moderate volume it's difficult to hear any outside noise. Well worth the money!
Very disappointed [Posted on 2007-12-04] I've been a happy user of Panasonic headphones for many years and so thought I would get these to replace a much larger and somewhat cumbersome noise-reducing set, made by Kensington, which did not have good high end response, that I use in my constant travels. My philosophy is to not buy really high end headphones for travel because I've managed to damage one or two sets, and some are just too large.
Basically, the Panasonics are a great disappointment. Though I changed earbuds to fit my ears I simply could not get enough volume from my two MP3 players to listen comfortably in the back of the plane where I usually sit, and it was impossible for me to hear a film on my Archos 604 -- I was more or less rescued by the tiny headset for my iPod. In the middle of my trip I was able to get a Sony MDR-NC6 headset that produced far more volume, with pretty good (not brilliant) noise reduction, and allowed me to enjoy my music and films on the way home.
So, if you do not have great ears, travel on planes a lot and maybe have devices that don't turn out thunderous volume, stay away from this product.
Nice, does the job for the price [Posted on 2008-03-11] I've used a lot of earbuds over the years, and have always been most impressed by the contoured fit. That's important, as the vast majority use a standard circular design that gets old after about half an hour. The RP-HC30 has a very nice, cushioned tip that fits snug and stays in place even through movement. I was impressed by the noise reduction, and for this price, felt the feature was quite adequate.
Great for airplanes [Posted on 2008-04-06] These headphones work great for blocking out the noise on an airplane. They do work better when sitting in front of the engines however. I no longer have to turn the volume on my Ipod all the way up to drown out the noise. The sound is great too. Great product, can't beat the price either!
Good and Bad [Posted on 2008-05-09] I got these as a gift at Christmas '07 and within 4 months they broke. I don't know what happened but the sound got all screwed up, I think because the wiring is extremely flimsy and not well-protected by the super thin black sheath around it. If i jiggled the cord it would help but still the sound was messed up, like the music was coming from under water or certain vocals couldn't be heard.
These fit in my ears very well, better than the Sony MDR-NC22's that i currently have.
The noise-canceling was superb because of the tight fit in your ear canal, great for a noisy cubicle environment. But the wiring breakage after 4 months of gentle use is pathetic; my parents' 24-year-old Panasonic microwave puts to shame this cheaply manufactured product. The flimsy wires also get severely tangled so that was a pain.
