After trying Shure, Koss, Sony, these are the best [Posted on 2008-05-02]
They are light. They fit my ear (no other in-the-ear model fits my ear). They don't fall out. They do a good job in blocking external sounds. They are compact. For the size, sound quality is excellent. While active sound blocking systems (such as Bose) will do a better job blocking sound, the trade-off in bulk is just not worth it. These are expensive, but they cost less than all the money I spent on other models that fell short of the mark.

OMG- awesome sound & comfortable [Posted on 2008-05-13]
I have Ultimate Ears (UE) super.fi 5 pro, and Audio Technica's ATH-EC7 GM (among other lesser portable headphones). The Klipse Image trumped both of these.
The UE is not comfortable over the long run- it sticks in your ear and feels like a brick- and compared to Klipsch Image- the bass is bloated. If you never compare the two side by side, you won't feel bad about the UE's bass, but once you hear how the Klipsch Image reproduce bass notes- there's not going back.
The ATH-EC7 have trouble making the seal, which means weak bass most of the time (but it sounds better than the super.fi 5, and pretty much on par with the Klipsch sound excepting bass).

The Klipsch Image have an amazingly natural sound- listen to instruments and you'll immediate notice how much more real it sounds, and the bass is so very tight and accurate sounding. You can walk around with the Klipsch Image all day long and never tire of having it stuck in your ear.

Slight weakness (most other portables have these problems as well)- vibrations on the wire will transmit to your ears; impossible to tell right and left side (tiny white letter R & L, on copper color). Not sure I buy into the 45 degree plug- I think I like the 90 degree ones more.

I plugged it into an iphone and it will play music! :) Now anxiously waiting for iphone 2.0 to come out...

If you're into squeezing the last drop of audio performance (price not an objection in your vocabulary)- then you MUST audition this. Apple store sells it with a return policy.

Klipsch Delivers [Posted on 2008-06-19]
My wife has it easy when picking out my presents. Anything audio will do. Well, not just anything.

I've been dissatisfied with earphones. There are decent ones for $40 when mowing the lawn. It's the high-end earphones that have been troublesome. Some even cause physical pain.

Then along comes Klipsch. Klipsch has a long standing reputation for value and innovation. I started searching the internet for reviews on the Image headphones. The pattern was, not enough treble and pricey.

The discount offered on Amazon, more than I see now, took them substantially out of the $350 category. Then I found a video on youtube from Klipsch discussing earphone design. They figured out that ear canals are not round yet their competitors all have round ear gels. Klipsch was able to patent their oval design.

My Image earphones fit perfectly on the first try out of the box with the medium (standard) earbud. I tried all of the earbuds and went back to the standard. They are so comfortable I literally forget I have them on. I've read about people sticking them deep into their ear. Mine achieve a perfect seal with minimal insertion. They don't fall out. The oval ear gels and miniature construction are the golden ticket.

The frequency response is balanced at the lowest volume levels. I compared them to my other high end earphones and I did not run across any problems in the treble range. The detail of the brush striking the cymbal is incredible. The reviews about the bass pan out. I ended up flattening the equalizer settings on my MP3 player.

These headphones provide great presence to digital sound. When I hold my hand over my ear the sound is unchanged. This is the first time I can lay on a pillow in comfort wearing earphones.

I highly recommend the Klipsch Image earphones. The only problem I've had is having to take them off. Hats off to the audio engineers at Klipsch for exceeding my expectations!

Not worth the Money, Bose cheaper and way way better [Posted on 2008-06-25]
oh my god, i can't belive i spended 200 dollars on this earpiece
1. The cord are extremely cheap looking, it's even cheaper looking and feeling to most of the earpiece that came with mp3 player.
2. The sound are terrible, no bass at all, i mean hardly hear any bass.
3. The high are way too high.
Whoever said this was the best headphone then try Bose in ear, they are sound warmer, better bass, and more true and HALF PRICE.

Custom - 3 [Posted on 2008-06-26]
Well, I've been having an interesting experience with these headphones. When you do manage to get a good seal in both ears the sound is amazing, very enjoyable to listen to however the comfort is not enjoyable at all. I have not been able to get comfortable with these while maintaining a seal. I've had them about a month now, experimenting about every day with them, trying all the ear gels extensively and even mix matching sizes for each ear. These things nearly almost hurt.

I can't really get a very good seal with the medium flanges regardless of what I do, the bass just ends up weak. Interesting enough I also can't get a good seal with large double flange gels either, or either of the small gels. The one size I can get a perfect seal with and am able to get the seal every time is the large single flange. That's when they sound amazing and the bass becomes very rich and full. Though I haven't really found it matters what size ear gel I use, they eventually start hurting my inner ear canal just from the pressure. It really gradually starts getting insanely uncomfortable to where I have to remove them. Also at times my ear canal tends to get incredibly itchy with these in.

I really don't understand it, I just don't understand why these are the entire opposite of comfort I can possibly imagine, they just are. I can't sleep with them in either, I lay on my side and with my ear against a pillow with one of these in is just a painful experience.

They're also not really convenient as far as ease of use goes, they take a good deal of effort to put each side in with a seal and you can't really hear much else when they're there. So, at a place like at work at my desk, I usually won't hear my phone ring or when someone comes up and starts talking to me they'll have to repeat everything they just said once I realize they are even there. Now of course you can just let them 'float' in your ear with no seal at all but they don't sound good or exciting at all. The apple earbud headphones are much more suited for work, they sound good with bass with no seal, create no pain or pressure, go in your ear with no effort at all, and I can sleep on them.

I never really wanted to compare these headphones to apple's earbuds but unfortunately that's the way it works out. In fact I will probably be returning these headphones and getting a new pair of apple earbuds (I needed new headphones in the first place, my original pair of apple earbuds died).

I really do love Klipsch products though, own two full theater systems from Klipsch and have heard a number of other systems of theirs. Really great stuff, though this would have to be the first time I've been less than happy with one of their products. If Klipsch decides to make different kinds of headphones that aren't ear canal types I will be interested to try again in the future! I'm sure they'll sound even more amazing. I'm definitely impressed with the sound of the custom-3's, just the comfort is not my bag of chips.
