Customer Reviews:

Good fit, good bass, lacking highs [Posted on 2007-09-23]
Despite never having much luck with in-ear headphones, I still bought the Philips SHE9501's the other day to give them a try. Drowning out my coworkers is a science I'm trying to perfect.

I can't understand why people are saying these don't provide enough bass, because if they had any more, my brain would rattle around in my skull. I found the bass to be deep, clear and distinct for this price. I DO have an issue with the top end. I still had to EQ the heck out of the high side to get crisp sounds out of these (iPod & iTunes). Once I did, they were satisfactory.

The fit is snug, but not totally air-tight. The plugs come with 2 extra ear pad sizes, neither of which worked for me better than the middle-size already mounted. IMPORTANT: Because the ear pads are of a very thin rubber type, and not compressible foam, I feel that these won't provide the total sound isolation some might be wishing for.

These use the "love-em or hate-em" asymmetrical cord people talk about. I can see the point. With the cord behind your neck, it keeps the thin wire from dangling right under your chin, which tends to be annoying while walking or sitting at a desk.

Overall, I'm happy with the fit and the good bass response, but disappointed with the high end clarity. Next time I'm going to try Sony, or just bite the bullet and spend a bunch more on some expensive Shure in-ear plugs.

Best headphones I've found, regardless of price [Posted on 2007-09-25]
These headphones are excellent! The best I've had; I'm amazed to find such quality for the price. At work, the extended cord lets me have them plugged into my computer and retain the freedom to move my head or move in my chair without dislodging them. When I work out, using an mp3 player armband, the different lengths of the cord makes them perfect - you can move your head without pulling the earbuds out of your ears or accidentally unplugging the cord. Sound quality is amazing, and the earbuds are very comfortable, unlike pricier versions I have tried. They also don't fall out of your ears when you're running, another problem I used to have. Not anymore! I highly recommend this product.

Great value for price. [Posted on 2007-11-28]
Let me start with a caveat: I'm not an audiophile, just someone who enjoys listening to music on my ipod. These are a great investment for someone looking to upgrade from the ear buds that typically come standard with ipods and other mp3 players without laying out a lot of cash.

What's good:
- These do a great job at cutting down external noise--I use them on my metro ride to work every day.
- Also, the sound is much better than those that came with my ipod.

What's not so good:
- If you're looking for superior bass, these probably won't cut it. The bass is an improvement over the pair that came standard with my ipod, but if bass is important to you then you probably won't find a pair of ear buds that meets your needs at this pricepoint.

not what i expected.. [Posted on 2007-12-29]
i've had philips items before, and they've never ever let me down. i had a walkman for about 10 years, and it's still going. they usually have wonderful products.
but when it comes to in ear headphones, the story is completely different.
i recieved this headphones (costing my mum $50) as a gift. the very first day i used them, the jack for the extension cord broke in half, leaving the plug part in my ipod. it was a huge hassle to just take out of the ipod jack, and the extension cord is now completely useless. i was forced to use the shorter headphone cords, which wouldn't even reach my pocket. they must be designed for midgets!
the bass is not that bad, it is much beter than apple in ear headphones.. but that's about it. when i'm listening to these headphones, there is an extremely annoying buzzing noise.
the buds don't fit properly in my ear, i tried al three sizes. the big ones don't work at all, obviously. the tiny ones fit for about five minutes before starting to fall out. they are extremely uncomfortable.

Terrible [Posted on 2008-01-14]
I'm on my way to the store to return these right after I finish this review.

Like many others, I bought these to use with my ipod. There is almost no bass response and the volume level is very low. I had to turn up my ipod all the way simply to hear the music. Just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I switched back and forth between these and the original ipod earbuds. The ipod earbuds have more bass and volume by far.
