I bought the Media Center Edition Wireless Keyboard but it didn't have an IR receiver so I had to buy this remote control too. Both items work very nice but I spend more than $100 usd and all that I wanted was a wireless keyboard.

If your using a Media Center to operate your TV, this is a neccessary buy. Adding the Microsoft remote to your Media Center configuration makes everything come together, you'll forget that keyboard and mouse are connected. Adding the remote control completes the system and allows it to blend reliably into your home entertainment setup. It's very annoying to have your media center integrated into your viewing experience and still be using a keyboard/mouse to control the experience. The remote allows non-technical users (other family members) to seamlessly operate all the Media center functions, TV, Video (DVD and file based), Music, etc. Nobody associates a keyboard/mouse with TV viewing, every media center needs a remote, even if it just an auxillary component of your entertainment center.
