A great Christmas present [Posted on 2008-10-08] This is the other side of my husband's Christmas present - and no doubt he is going to be extremely pleased that I purchased this item for him. I'm excited for him to see it !
It's a great little MP3 Player... [Posted on 2008-10-13] (so this is actually K.Polman's daughter btw.)
Well, I've been looking for an MP3 Player for about 6 months now to replace my 1st generation iPod nano i've had for the past 3 years (it's slowly dying... It did me well.) and I would go with an iPod again, except... it's price.
So, I was at Costco with my mom, checking them out and such... This was the only one they had that looked decent; 140$ for 8 gbs? Plus Space to add more? Sweet! So, I picked this up and I've really enjoyed it so far. Personally, I don't care what other reviewers have said; The earphones, although sorta crappy, have crystal clear sound. Better then the apple headphones in that case. The way these are made, they won't get holes in them and have their wires sticking out. (Haha... I suppose after 3 years of use and no change, the iPod ones were bound to flaw eventually.) Although... The foamy things come off it... and they're too big for my ears.
Now, you may ask... Why have you given it such a great review, yet only 3 stars?
I've got some problems with it.
First of a few, There's no SLEEP TIMER! I share a room with an older sister who doesn't seem to like my music. So, I've gotta listen to it on my mp3 if I wanna listen to it at night.. Yet... when I get tired and accidentally fall asleep, my mp3 player is just gonna stay on all night? That really bugs me. My iPod allows me to put it on sleeptimer for 15, 30, 45, or 75 minutes (or something of the sort.) and that was a really nice feature.
Secondly, There's no AUDIOBOOK FEATURE! I have to go and BUY my audiobooks from a specific place in order to use them!? Jeez, I can't afford that! I already OWN the audiobooks... all I wanna do it listen to them while i'm walking to school. This is probably my HUGEST issue.
Next, The video.
I tried using their video conversion program. It crashed my system. I tried using a different program, it didn't work. What the hell!?
*sigh*
I miss having an actual program to sort my music, rather then all this drag and drop stuff. It looks as though I can use Windows Media Player.. But I'm in love with iTunes...
Lastly, the fact that when you put in music, no matter how hard you try to change the name or anything, it still has the track listings in the name. I honestly don't want to be scrolling through all of my numberized songs looking for "C" Because I wanna listen to Chris Rice! (My memory isn't so amazing that I know exactly what track number my songs are.)
It's a little bit annoying.
Needless to say, i'm returning it and forking out the 250$ To pick myself up the actual iPod that I want. When I get my paycheck i'll put it back.
If you want all the features, get the iPod. Sansa, you've done well, but It seems as though I'm too hard to please.
Easy to use. Great radio. Sounds fantastic! [Posted on 2008-10-27] This is my first MP3 player and I wasn't expecting it to be that great, since everyone seems to be in love with the Apple ipod mated with itunes software. Boy was I in for a surprise. Not only did this player fulfill my expectations, it made me a believer in SanDisk products.
Since I listen to the radio a lot, I really appreciate the built in radio; which by the way, works great. The only time you'll have a reduction in sound quality is when you are in an elevator, or in an underground parking lot. Otherwise, the sound is as good as a car radio when you are out in the open.
You won't be able to use itunes with this unit. You have to use Windows Media Player. WMP may seem a little confusing at first, so just make sure you have the latest version of the player, and you should be OK.
One reviewer complained about not being able to charge the player through his PC. SanDisk mentions that not all PC's will be able to charge the player when the computer is OFF; but it will always change with no problem when the PC is ON. Keep that in mind. If you don't want to always have the PC on to change the player, then get the Belkin changing kit. It's cheap, and you'll get a car charger along with an AC adapter.
I paid about $115 for my player brand new. I see that "Like New" units are going for $70, and unless there is some defect in the unit that you get. I would consider that price as a "steal." I like my player, and knowing that I can add more memory makes it even more of a value. SanDisk will always get my vote for a job well done!
Bad Luck? [Posted on 2008-11-12] The Sansa View 8GB I received was faulty. The battery would not hold a charge and/or the player would not turn on. This happened within hours of opening the player packaging and attempting an initial full-charge of the player's battery. The battery is only chargeable via USB and I tried using a PC and an AC to USB adapter to charge it. There is no hard reset button like I have seen on other players (namely Cowon brand players) so it could not simply be reset.
I decided to return the product for a refund because it did not seem worth the trouble of waiting for a new (or repaired) player. I was not very impressed with the build quality of the player. It felt and looked very prone to scratching or other damage if not treated with extreme care. Furthermore, I found another player that suited my personal needs and desires better than the Sansa View.
Battery problems [Posted on 2008-11-14] Worked fine... until the battery died after one year. You can't replace it so essentially the player is useless. Would not recommend.
