Very good earbuds! [Posted on 2008-03-18] Finally a decent sounding pair of ear buds for a reasonable price! First let me say that I have owned Sennheiser MX400 ear buds (clear but weak sound and no bass), CX 300s (good bass & highs, no mids but I HATE in ear phones), HD-497 (best under $100 headphones EVER - period) and HD-150. I also own a pair of Bose Triports (good sound but I prefer Senns). So when I tell you these ear buds sound good, believe me, I am comparing these with some excellent headphones which I personally own. The MX760s sound very good. Of course not as good as high end headphones but they compare favorably. They are similar to the Senn CX300 as far as sound quality, but fit on the ear rather than in the ear. Of course, these leak some sound - you expect that with buds but still the seal on my ear is good, they seem to fit my ear very well. Bass is excellent and highs are very clear. Mids well...a little muddy. But the sound is big and full and not tinny at all. Let me repeat, plenty of BASS. If you listen to rock, pop, electronic, hip-hop, even smooth jazz you will like these. If you listen to any jazz vocal (ex. Diana Krall or Michael Buble) the buds start to show their slight weakness: lack of well defined mids. Discerning listeners will be disappointed with mids response.
Yet - I believe these are high quality ear buds AND in the $30 range people - so all things considered its excellent sound for the money!
And for $30 you won't be afraid of breaking them by using them everyday. They're actually constructed pretty well and don't feel cheap at all to me. Sennheiser even throws in a little vinyl carrying pouch.
In my opinion, Sennheiser got it right with these. They are the best sounding small "buds" (on ear not in ear) that my ears have heard. Throw out your stock ear buds NOW and buy these, you won't be sorry.
These earbuds don't know what they want to be [Posted on 2008-04-30] I bought these without explicitly checking how long they were sans extension cord, and it turned out they were too short to use with anything except players strapped to my arm or hooked around my neck. I had planned to use them with my DS, but the cable is too short, and that's just held at arm's length!
The extension cord is surprisingly bulky and hangs heavily from your ears, so it is not a good idea for pocket music players. This really kills the value, because they're much heavier than I was expecting with the extension cord attached, and I like my earbuds to be lightweight.
The audio quality was excellent, but unless you are buying them strictly for a neck or arm-clipped player, you're wasting your money. If you want the same impressive audio quality of these earbuds without the annoying extension cord, I highly recommend the MX660 series. If they really want to improve this product, I'd add another 6 inches to the unextended cord so you have more choice in what you can use it with.
Not worth the money [Posted on 2008-05-26] Sennheiser claims that these are the top pick of the 160-760 earbud series, but they are almost no specialty over the usual Sony 818-828 or Creative earbuds. Clarity may be the only strong point. "Basswind" is just a marketing title. I actually get more powerful bass from 10-dollar Creative earphones. So don't buy these if you are especially into bass, and don't buy again if you are looking for very bright non-in-canal type earphones. Let me remind you that the extension cord is totally nonsense, as there is no use of the earphones without the extension because the normal cord is just too short that you have to keep your portable right at your neck level.
All in all these are just good, decent earphones sold for a rather high price.
Backup Earphone [Posted on 2008-08-18] I have owned Sennheiser ear and head phones and have never had issue. This is a back up to the Shure earphone and something I use almost daily when I do not want to use Shure's in-ear piece.
For Shure's product (the 210's) I bought the earphone and a volumn control as an accessory from Earphone Solutions which is a great outfit.
What is important for an in-the-ear piece is that they do not re-sell something that has been opened and used. I am a frequent shopper for Amazon.com, but could not find a return policy for in-the ear phones. I would not want to buy a returned item like that.
