Good all-rounders [Posted on 2008-05-09] The PMX-100s sound just like the PX-100s. It's a proven, if not perfect formula, and superb for the price range. You get heapings of bass, maybe somewhat overpowering to some, though not obnoxious by any means. A smooth, warm midrange, voices sound relatively natural and don't suffer from the Bose "James Earl Jones" effect. Their biggest weakness, sound wise, is the high end; they aren't particularly detailed or clear.
The result is a sound that's easy to listen to and live with, the sound these put out isn't going to be hurting your ears after any duration of time, unlike many headphones in this price range.
I got these as running headphones: I previously used Koss KSC-75s, which sound almost as good (and cost less than half as much), but don't seem to be as comfortable; their clips caused excessive pressure on the tops of my ears after extended durations of listening, and, while Koss has a lifetime warranty, the ear clips had a tendency to fall out after a couple years drove me to look for something new.
These aren't perfect in the comfort department either: they sacrifice a bit of comfort for stability. I can't imagine they'd go flying off under any realistic circumstance outside of a tornado. The neckband is made of metal and plastic, and actually clamps with a moderate amount of force. The headphones will stay on in most circumstances without even sticking your ears through the clips. As opposed to most earclips I've used, which put more pressure at the top of the ear, these balance it out a bit more, though not perfectly. They tend to pinch forward, putting a bit more pressure at the front of the ears (and a little bit on top from the clips) - overall I'd call them a bit more comfortable than the KSC-75s, and they fit a bit better too. Something I would have liked to see is an adjustable band: these don't have one.
Overall, I'm happy with these headphones. They aren't perfect, but they sound a lot better than most similar models, are comfortable enough, and are good for running. I'd recommend you try on a pair if you have a large head due to the non adjustable band (the Koss Porta Pros or Sporta Pros might be better suited for you)
These aren't going to replace my HD600s at home, but they serve their purpose very well.
Great sound, uncomfortable, look ridiculous [Posted on 2008-05-22] These headphones sound great (for the price) but I found them uncomfortable and to add insult to injury, stupid looking. The outer portion of the headphone looks suspiciously like a car rim is painted to look like carbon fiber. Carbon fiber?
another glowing review! [Posted on 2008-05-27] nice headphones. good fit -they stay put, great sound, and excellent build quality.
The ABSOLUTE Best [Posted on 2008-05-27] I went through two sets of Shure's, Beyerdynamics, Skullcandy - none of them fit - the Shure's and the Beyerdynamics sounded incredible - but they were not comfortable and I could not use them. These were a great deal (rebate), they sound wonderful and they are incredibly comfortable. I use them in the office, walking around downtown and I absolutely love them. I use them with a 20 GB IPOD. I listen to a very wide range of music - from old school rap to classical and opera and they are quite versatile. 100% satisfied - I am so glad I am done looking for headphones.
PMX100 Headphones [Posted on 2008-06-03] These headphones have good quality sound. I use them for jogging and there's not too much to complain about there. They stay on well enough. My only complaint is that the band that goes behind the neck is not adjustable. Not a big deal in terms of function, but the band sticks out a bit in the back and looks a little goofy. All around pleased with the product, and would recommend it.
