I am an avid runner and weightlifter who listens to music, magazines on tape, and books on tape. Thus, headphones with a good sound quality but comfort is important. Another priority, is the headphones must not move or fall off because of sweat or jerky movements.
I have invested hundreds of dollars into various headphones. These are the best in satisfying my criteria. There is great sound, tremendous comfort and no readjusting while running. This is an important item, because I run many steep and bumpy trails. It also works great for activities inside the gym. The only downside is that you cannot listen while you are bench pressing or performing other activities while lying down. Usually,I use another set of headphones when weightlifting.
From one runner/weightlifter to another: these are the ones!

I had high hopes for these headphones. I have tried many different models and thought these might fit the bill. First of all the materials are of poor quality. The screws that hold the bud portion of the headphone began to rust (too cheap to use stainless screws). Shortly after the rusting issue that sound quality deteriorated. I have never run in the rain with these, but like most people I sweat when I run. I wouldn't recommend these to anyone!

More comfortable then most other headsets, high quality audio. Good for airline travel, although not completely noise cancelling.

I bought these headphones for working out on an elliptical. I loved the fit and the sound. But, the right side stopped working after about 2 months of use. Very disappointing, I will not buy again.

These are the first set of headphones that I can wear anytime. I use them with my ipod while running, doing yard work, cleaning, washing my car, and walking my dog. They stay in my ears, and are very comfortable. Apple earbuds fall out of my ears, and eventually are uncomfortable for me. I never thought I would spend this much money on headphones, but it has been worth it. Highly recommended.
