Wicked Pissah [Posted on 2008-02-22] I would like to begin with that I'm writing this review while I'm using them. I bought the Bose in ear headphones thinking that they were good. They didn't feel to secure in the ear and the sound quality was muffled a bit. Let me tell you, the SHURE SE110 are awesome. A friend who is an electrical engineer recommended them to me based on their frequency response. They have a great sound and do an excellent job cutting out the ambient noises in whatever atmosphere you're in. I am a musician and can hear all sorts of stuff that people may not. I highly recommend them.
Nothing to complain about [Posted on 2008-04-02] Pros
+ Isolates sound very well. First day I used it, co-workers were already irritated that they were calling my name and I couldn't hear them. Excellent, now I can zone while I work!
+ The short cable + extension cable allows this earphone to be used with an armband iPod or your desktop computer without dangling cables
Cons
- The cost - sound quality wise, I've had something similar for half the price by Sony. I expected a wowing difference at $100.
Comfortable but absolutely no bass and sounds like a cheap pair [Posted on 2008-04-13] I rarely do reviews, but all the reviews I read on this product were very good reviews and I bought a pair. I'm absolutely shocked that anyone could rate the 110's higher than a 3 star. This is the first product I've bought on Amazon that I had to return (not Amazon's fault). I read all the online reviews that said the SE110 was essentially almost as good as the SE310s. That is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. These headphones have no bass at all. I turned up the EQ on my iPOD all the way to put the most bass on and it sounded like cheap headphones with no bass - even turned up.
The SE110s are VERY comfortable and from that perspective, they're a 5. They're a very well constructed product as well. However, I can't get over the terrible bass which makes the over sound quality very poor.
If you're only going to listen to piano or vocals, these are probably good. However, even for piano sounds, you lose the low tones. Very, very disappointed.
After I returned the SE110s I bought the SE310s and am MUCH happier. I'm very surprise Shure would put a product like this on the market.
Great sound -- LOUSY construction [Posted on 2008-04-27] The problem is that although they sound is great, the material quality -- especially the cord is REALLY poor given the high price. It is ESPECIALLY bad where the cord meets the ear phones itself...this is where it will take the most daily wear. It WILL break eventually. It is almost as if it has been designed to fail so that you will eventually buy another pair at a ridiculous high price.
Furthermore the ear plugs seems to be designed so that they FALL OFF easily so that you will lose them and have to buy replacements from SHURE at --- suprise!--- a ridiculously high price again. 2 cents worth of material for 10 bucks!.
Recommedation: NEVER AGAIN!
Great, but not to take in/out frequently [Posted on 2008-04-28] These sound great with the expanding foam inserts. They block out sound really well. So much so that you can't use them and function if someone wants to talk to you sporadically. They stay put really well, better than any others I've tried. Really good for workouts, loop around ears, to give extra assurance against accidental pull out. I found myself going back to $10 Sony's for everyday use, so I can hear around them a little bit. I would buy them again, though.
