Skullcandy SC-HESH Hesh HeadphonesBrand: Skullcandy Binding: Misc.
wow [Posted on 2008-06-05] These are probably the most uncomfortable headphones I've ever had. they sound great and look cool. the only down side is they leak allot of noice. other than that i would buy these if i were you. (if your friends have a pair try those first to make sure there you.)
I won't sugar coat this [Posted on 2008-06-20] These headphones were essentially an all around let down for various reasons.
I want to start with the most obvious flaw to me which is the two torn parts of the upper headband. The first pair of these I received was FAR more damaged than this new pair, and I was able to tack down the rips with some fabric glue; but this is still a bit unacceptable seeing as how I just paid fifty bucks and these things are damaged out of the box. The damage itself is located in almost the exact same place on both units leading me to believe this is something that happened at the factory.
If you already own a pair check the top of yours beneath the "ll" in skullcandy, near the bottom of the building (I'm referencing the design) and around the area of the turntable on the other side. If you do find rips chances are they were there since you bought them. If not, I guess you got a decent pair, kudos.
As long as we're on the subject of aesthetics I'll also take a moment to address the zebra print pattern which gave them a funky look and originally drew me to them. I've seen a couple pairs of these in-store and they look pretty decent, but it's also random and the pair I received from amazon looks blotchy and over-dyed. Almost like the fabric got wet during the dye process and the black bled all over the white in a blue hue.
This may not be a big deal but it detracts from the overall look of the product and chances are if you like skullcandy the look is at the very least a small part of it.
Now, onto the meat and potatoes of all of it; sound.
All in all I'd say they sound pretty good, but I'm still unsure if I would say they sound good enough to drop fifty dollars on... Base and treble are delivered in a good mix. The drivers easily capable of delivering punchy beat and deep lows, while not skimping on the high twang of stringed solos. No problems here...
The ear cups themselves fit well, and oddly enough the odd patterned fur that lines my pair feels much better on my ears that that fake leather crap that seems to be on every other headset these days. However, if you have moderate to heavily pierced ears you may want to think twice about these as I found them to be very uncomfortable to wear with my piercings in. The same gentle force that kept a nice seal for the sound also working my captive rings and studs into my head, but after I took them out the problem evaporated. I will say that despite the overall comfort they can get a bit hot though... I wasn't sweating or anything but it was still a bit annoying.
The in line volume control is nice, complete with a clip to secure it to your jacket or pocket. And the cord length in general is generous enough to allow you free range of movement and balances by being short enough that you aren't snagging it on things. Although, it is split into two sections which doesn't make much sense to me; unless you want to unhook the smaller section in order to plug it into a specific length of cable. Who knows... It still works fine.
As an added bonus you also get a carrying pouch to help make sure skullcandy is the only one who damages your stuff ;) Seriously though, all skullcandy products come with some form of carrier and most with variations of this pouch design. It actually comes in handy since it prevents the plastic from getting scuffed and keeps grime off your jack.
All in all these would be a good buy for say, $[...] but for [...] it borders more on a fashion statement and a poorly dyed, torn one at that. You could say that $[...] is still relatively cheap compared to Bose and other "high-end" products but I still say it's all a bunch of cheap chinese crap that cost two bucks to make and in the end all that really matters is how much or little you notice that.
Excellent buy! [Posted on 2008-06-20] These headphones worked out so nicely for my girlfriend that I had to purchase my own pair. Great clean tones, powerful bass, and very comfortable. I'd definitely recommend these headphones!
Ah, i love bass. [Posted on 2008-06-22] I am extremely satisfied with these headphones, Skullcandy SC-HESH. I have been looking for a pair of fair priced GOOD QUALITY headphones...the search is over! I can hear/feel the amazing bass and clearly hear the music in whole. I listen to all types of music and it all sounds great with these! NIN, Deftones, Common, Erykah Badu, Korn, 311, 112, Mary J. Blige, Lil' Wayne...they all sound GREAT! Loud enough to keep outside sounds OUT. Cons: short wire, sound leakage and tight fit. They kinda hurt my ears because of the pressure/tightness. I find myself having to take them off every so often to rest my ears but the cushions are very soft and comfortable. Aside from that they're awesome and I recommend these.
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly [Posted on 2008-06-26] Alright, I'll keep this (semi) short and (possibly?) sweet.
THE GOOD
The Sound is fantastic. I'm not a audio connoisseur, but I know that this plays my music well, and also my video games when I happen to connect them to the TV or computer.
I won't get into the technical specifications, I lack the knowledge and understanding of it all. They sound good to me.
THE BAD
1. Yes, as people have already said, out of the box they are vice-like. Well, I'll retract that statement. They are comfortable for about 15-20 minutes, and then it feels like someone is squeezing your head. Eventually it goes away, but it is annoying, and can make your ears sore if you leave them on too long.
2. A minor gripe, but I'd like them better if the cord was longer. Like I said, minor.
THE UGLY
This is the kicker for me, unfortunately. The adjustable part of the headphones, is made out of plastic. Which isn't a problem, except for some reason, the plastic is hollow. And after a hundred or more times or stretching them a bit to put them on and take them off, the plastic starts to bend, and eventually breaks.
I liked my first pair, which was the red and white with faux zebra fur, that I ordered another pair after they broke. The same thing just (literally, 10 minutes ago) happened to the other pair I had. The white and black ones. They both lasted about the same amount of time. 5 months or so.
I love the headphones, I really do. If the plastic adjuster things could just be sorted, they'd be amazing headphones.
