OK DVD Player [Posted on 2008-05-04] This DVD player was a decent deal. The video quality is good and it remembers the last place on many DVDs to pick up at that point. The biggest negative that I can say is that it starts up slow and is slow to load in a DVD. It may be due to the advanced features loading. It tricks us sometimes by making us think that we didn't hit the on or off button. It's OK.
Great player for under 100 bucks [Posted on 2008-06-12] I got this to go with my 61" Samsung DLP and it looks great. Have not compared side-by-side with Blu-Ray but regular DVDs seem to be converted to hi def.
Only because no stars wasn't an option [Posted on 2008-07-09] We purchased this DVD player at Christmas. From day 1 the picture was very stretched vertically. This happened on every DVD we tried. We learned to live with it. We really aren't picky.
We've just passed July 4th and now the DVD player won't recognize any DVD or CD AT ALL. We contacted Sony and were told that we would need to send it in for warranty repair. BUT, they wanted us to pay $36 + shipping for the repair to be completed under warranty.
(I know, that didn't make sense to me either.)
Now sending it in for warranty repair is another roll of the dice. The representative explained that they may not even send the original unit back to us. They may send us a comparable unit. What is a comparable unit, we asked. The response that we got was that it would be whatever they decided to send us at the time. They did state that it might not even be the same model. Not much of a warranty repair on a player that lasted 7 months.
And now thanks to Sony, the search begins for a new (non-Sony) player.
Near HD quality (when used with HDMI cable) at a low price [Posted on 2008-08-04] It's hard to beat beat all the features for this extremely low price. I already have 2 units and am considering buying a 3rd.
As long as you purchase & use a quality HDMI cable, the picture quality is excellent. The cable doesn't need to be expensive, but it must be HDMI to benefit from upscaling. If you use the cables included with the unit, you will not benefit from upscaling.
The player can recall where you stopped watching for up to 6 DVDs.
The unit is slim and only 8" deep. The DVD player needs ventilation. It will get hot if used in enclosed places such as behind glass cabinet doors.
This is an excellent alternative to anyone who isn't ready to take the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray plunge.
I've had no problems with this unit and highly recommend it.
Excellent DVD player [Posted on 2008-09-18] I was looking for a nice upconverter to use with my new HDTV and I came across this one. I love it. It plays pretty much everything you can think of, including dual layer burned DVDs. The upconverting isn't going to be Blu-Ray quality obviously, but it definitely enhances the picture quality. Great product!
