Excellent quality sound but the retractable feature needs a lot of work [Posted on 2008-01-09] I really like retractable earbuds so I don't have to deal with the cords getting all tangled up etc... I went with this one because it's made by Sony...how can you go wrong?
The sound is absolutely terrific. Crisp and clean with nice depth, and without a thumping bass that drowns out everything else.
The earbud covers are a medium size and include a replacement pair - in the same size. They block out all external sound very, very well. I have small ears and they were comfortable enough, but I did decide to get a smaller size cover and swap them out. Much better.
The only negative thing about these is the retracting device itself! Previous retractable earbuds that I've had have cords that pull out of both sides, and then you pull on them again for them to retract/rewind. Fast and easy.
The Sony earbuds are designed to have the entire cord come out of one side - not a big deal. To retract them, you push and hold to the side a button on the back of the unit. The cord slowly retracts about half way, and then you get to feed the cord into the unit. It reminds me of the retractable cord on an old vacuum cleaner that I used to have.
I really can't believe that a Sony product would have such a glaring (to me) flaw and am very disappointed with that feature. I do enjoy the sound so much that I can live with it, but I'm not sure that I would recommend them...
Just what I needed [Posted on 2008-02-15] Sound is really nice. The clip makes it easy to manage. The jack does not retract. And the headphones are a simple Y so have to be worn in front.
Size is small enough to keep in a jacket pocket with your mp3 player.
And the earbuds are not the solid plastic kinds - they are the squishy fit in your ear and come with 3 different sized buds. Very comfortable.
Noise reducing isn't great but they aren't suppose to.
Good sound, external noise reduction [Posted on 2008-05-05] With the plastic attachments on the buds, these fit more like earplugs than headphones of any kind. They are soft on my ear inside, and keep out external noises well enough to enjoy a good book or music without putting the volume up extremely high. I would buy these again, and would recommend them to others!
