Better sounds than the v600, but not as comfortable [Posted on 2008-06-10] These are a great set of headphones. I also own a MDR-V600, and was so impressed by those that I decided to get these as well. Listening to music on both, the V6 is noticeably (although barely) better. I'm not an audiophile, but I could still tell the difference.
However, for me the V600 were much more comfortable. They completely surround the ear which makes them very easy to keep on all day while you work. The V6's are still relatively comfortable, and if I didn't have the V600 to compare with, I would say they are good enough (comfort wise).
If you want a pair of headphones to listen to at work in the background, I might suggest you look at the V600s. Otherwise, its hard to go wrong with this set.
Very nice [Posted on 2008-06-10] Extended frequency response for harmonics, thus sound is crystal clear. Also bass response is excellent. Very comfortable on the head and ears. This phone does NOT eliminate ambient noise, nor is it designed to do so.
Fantastic headphones [Posted on 2008-06-12] Very comfortable. Great sound, very balanced. The first headphones I've used that I have no desire to adjust the sound with an EQ. Very, very happy with these headphones.
Great Headphones [Posted on 2008-06-18] After eight years, it was time to replace my old Sony headphones. Instead of buying some newly designed headphones, I decided to go with the vintage/respected Sony MDR-V6 model. I'm glad I did! The sound is nice and crisp with good response throughout. They could be a tad bit more comfortable, but I think I'm just grieving the loss of my old headphones... I'll get used to these.
*Separate note: The seller that I bought these from (through Amazon third party --- initials E.E.) was terrible. The shipping was slow (not "express" ;) ) and when I finally got the package... there was A CLUMP OF HAIR attached to the headphones. Not just a strand... a CLUMP! It was disgusting. A few deep breaths and a half a can of Lysol later, and it's all good.
For Better Highs and Tighter Bottoms [Posted on 2008-07-01] Like many have written here I have had my MDR-V6s for more than 15 years. They are still in production (July 2008) in a market where product life is measured in months this is strong testimony.
They are very comfortable on my wide head. I enjoy their "flat" frequency response. Not boomy on the bottom and a open extended high end.
Over the years I have used them on a broad range of equipment from computers to portable cassette and CD players to professional audio/video equipment. They have always performed well.
The ear cushions have deteriorated and need replacing. I have not found a comfortable headphone whose ear pads didn't crumble over years of use.
Mine came with the 1/4" plug adapter yet Amazon suggests you order it separately.
These are the real deal - Enjoy!
