What was Sony thinking??? [Posted on 2008-04-22] I purchased these at a major store on a Saturday to replace some $10 headphones by Sony that had shorted out. Price was $99, but I had just got paid so figured, I'll splurge because maybe the sound quality will be great. Was I ever wrong! The sound had no bass and was quite inferior to my $10 model. The cord was so non-ergonimically planned and dangled to my mid-thigh (I'm 6'1" tall). Also, these headphones actually hurt my ears BIGTIME! I returned them for a refund the very next day. In summary: (1) 10 times more expensive than basic model (2) very poor sound quality (3) painful in my ears and (4) monstrously long cord. Did they test this product with any consumers? Man, someone will be getting fired over this one.
Great sound, great design [Posted on 2008-06-23] I have gone through several sets of earbuds for my MP3 player, but was never really satisfied with the sound, and none of them fit securely enough to use duing any sort of activity. I decided to get myself a quality set of light weight headphones and picked up these Sony's last week. I am totally satisfied with them. The bass is much fuller than any of the earbuds I have tried, and the midrange and treble much more detailed. When playing music I have heard before it is like listening to a whole new recording. Once properly adjusted, the headphones are comfortable and secure, too, allowing me to use them while engaging in routine physical activity like running, cycling, etc.
Great pair of headphones [Posted on 2008-07-25] These are actually silver in color, and not white as Amazon describes them (this is the only color that this model is available in). These headphones are probably not worth it at full retail price, so if you can get them at a discount they're not a bad deal. The quality of materials is very nice (much nicer than the other Sony headphones I've used). They are probably a bit fragile however, so I wouldn't buy these if you plan on tossing them around in a gym bag. The cord is also typical fragile Sony material and includes an extension cord so it can be used both for arm band MP3 players, and then extended if you aren't using an arm band.
I like that is only has one cord to deal with tangles. Sound quality is good (not spectacular) but this is meant for working out and if you want that kind of sound quality, you will be paying $100+. It fits well for me at least and is very secure.
For some reason whenever I use these on a treadmill, I will get mini electric shocks to my ear for the first minute or so (probably static electricity from the machine). It is much better than some other workout headphones I use where the shock is much more painful and frequent.
