sony garb  [Posted on 2008-02-24]
Well I knew sony wasnt that good in computers when I bought this thing. But I bought it anyway. HP and TOSHIBAs were far superior, the battery on the sony doesnt fit tightly in the computer, it shakes around, somtimes the latch comes loose and you can really lose your battery. The keyboard is nice and the camera is good. It is pretty slow for windows vista, you might look for somthing with more speed for vista, this doesnt cut the mustard. THis will be my second and last sony, the last one had disk failure twice and then I was told they would extend the warrenty which they never did, once this one goes south it goes in the trash. The machine looks cool in the pictures but isnt that great in person. The hp dv2000's are mrore substantial and you can hear the speaker. The cr has the worst speakers i have seen in a long time, sort of the speed of the macbook....

I am impressed...and I'll never buy a Dell again! [Posted on 2008-05-21]
I recently bought this laptop after my college graduation, and I am so glad that I did. I made the big mistake of purchasing from Dell in the past, and this machine is head-and-shoulders above any of the 3 Dells I've purchased. First, one thing about laptops is heat. Every Dell laptop that I've owned has been plagued by overheating, and I'm proud to say that this Sony runs very cool. The main reason for this are the perfectly placed large vents on the back left. Also, this is a very comfortable laptop to travel with, as it is very light. Next, the screen is flawless and very clear. My Dell had the standard 15" screen that I found very cumbersome, and this screen size is perfect. I told myself the first thing I would do is delete Vista and install XP, but I ate those words, because I found that this machine runs Vista just fine. All in all, I'm a very happy owner.

Works great! [Posted on 2008-07-12]
I bought this computer in November, 2007 so I've had it for about 9 months and I haven't experienced any of the problems that some others have noted..i.e. the battery falling out, blurry video quality, excessively short battery life, etc... The battery does NOT rattle around or feel loose. I have carried this notebook with me quite a bit and have never had that happen or felt like it would. The video quality is very good. I watch movies on it all the time through Netflix on demand as well as DVD's. Either way, the video quality is crisp and clear (unless the source video itself is blurry..but that's not the fault of the computer). I do everything on this computer from business to watching movies to playing video games. It runs World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online beautifully. I have used it near wireless hotspots and it works fine. Granted it has to be the type of wireless network that is compatible so if it's a bluetooth network then it won't work and can't be upgraded, but I knew that when I bought it so I can't rightfully complain that it doesn't have it. However, all-in-all this is a terrific little computer. The lack of Blu-Ray doesn't bother me either as I have a PS3 to do that for me at home and, again, I knew it didn't have Blu-Ray when I bought it. The one negative comment I have because it was unexpected is that when I run Photoshop it can lag and smear the picture while scrolling during editing if it is a large file. The built-in speaker quality is pretty heinous, but headphones or speakers plugged in to the audio output port remedies that. Most computers have pretty tinny (hollow) sounding audio anyway so at home I use the plug in speakers and when I'm out it's headphones. Regardless of how good or bad the speaker quality is on any notebook, I would be using headphones in public anyway out of courtesy, so the speaker quality is kind of a non-issue IMO. Is it the most tricked-out computer on the market? Of course not. But for the price it's a great buy.

I can't say enough good things about this computer. It has all the bells and whistles that I was looking for. Highly recommended.
