Not worth it [Posted on 2008-01-28] I purchased this at a Sony outlet store about 2 months ago (there were no chargers in stock ANYWHERE online) because I needed to charge the player on the road when I didn't have a USB port handy. I soon realized I should have gone with the travel charger instead because this thing costs too much & serves no real purpose.
I give it 1 star for performing as advertised, but it's too bulky for travel & doesn't offer anything special in terms of function or convenience.
It does charge my Walkman properly & allow for syncing with my computer, but it requires 3 separate cables, the base unit, and the plastic piece that came with the player to do so.
There's 1 cable from the outlet to the 100-240V AC adapter box; another from the adapter to the base unit; the proprietary USB/sync cable that came with your player (you don't get a 2nd one for shelling out another $50); and if you want to connect to external speakers, you'd need yet another cable to attach to your stereo system, unless you're using computer speakers, in which case this feature is pointless. The "audio in" feature is also useless, as the compatible Walkman models cannot record.
About the only thing this cradle is good for is allowing your Walkman to stand upright & look pretty (assuming you still have the little plastic cradle attachment that for some reason ships with the players themselves).
Instead, I recommend purchasing the much more compact & practical travel chargerSony AC-NWUM50 AC Adapter for NWZ-A800 and NWZ-S600 Series Sony Walkman Video MP3 Player. This offers the same 100-240V charging capability in a compact package for only $35. You still need the separate proprietary USB cable if you want to sync, but that's true of both setups.
