Features: IM3c iPod Portable Speakers [Posted on 2008-07-19] I already owned this iPod speaker in white, but bought this for my son's birthday. Although I almost always use these speakers plugged in using the AC adapter that comes with it, it can also be run on batteries providing nice versatility. The sound is very good - definitely not audiophile quality, but if you're expecting them to at this price point, I think you're expecting too much. The sound is good - rich, not to much bass with just enough treble. The unit also comes with adapters for most any iPod (you'll want to make sure it will fit yours though, new iPod models release pretty frequently...). Finally, the remote that slides nicely in and out of the slot at the top/back of the unit is a really thoughtful touch that will allow you to skip songs and adjust the volume from across the room with ease.
Overall a great unit for a very good price. Definitely recommended.
Black style better than white? [Posted on 2008-09-05] I ended up purchasing the Altec Lansing speakers (black) because the previous ones (white) which were a Christmas gift, didn't last. As a matter of fact, I hadn't really used them all that much. When I pulled them out (as I primarily used them for travel) to use at the hospital for my upcoming baby delivery, they turned on OK, but the next day I could not get any power to them. I went online to purchase another set, this time black because there was a significant price difference. That is why the title to my review!
Even though this second set was factory sealed and it mentioned on the box "Universal Power", I only received the domestic (USA) adapter. Because I've had this item previously, I knew there were 3 more adapters. I called the number listed on the box to have the others sent to me. Unfortunately, when I received the envelope, the person had put in an order for exactly the opposite - the domestic one - even though I repeated myself 3 times as to what items I wanted. I guess listening skills were not optimal for this person. I am now still awaiting the adapters. So this is the disappointing news...
However, as long as these last, I cannot say enough about the quality of sound that comes from these little speakers. When I heard these the first time - a colleague had these for a room party at the hotel - I was amazed, and knew I had to have these. I also heard another set belonging to a colleague and he wanted to buy these for me as a gift. They were less expensive, but after I heard the quality of sound, I declined. I told him I wanted the Altec Lansing ones and would buy them myself (as they were more than double the price). He insisted to buy them for me.
So as far as buying these for yourself, I recommend them. However make sure you have all components so you CAN use them universally.
I am looking forward to once again listening to high quality sound coming from my little Ipod and speakers.
