Customer Reviews:

This table is light and strong, and perfect. [Posted on 2008-02-19]
I bought this for my Mother who broke her hip and needed a work area in her lap. This is the ideal solution. It snaps together, folds up, can be used for her art projects, as well as a desk.

Table Mate II [Posted on 2008-03-03]
Table Mate II is very handy for getting up close to you when sitting on the couch. That is what we were looking for. We also think the tray itself is a little bit too flimsy. We realize the way the table is made is lightweight, but would like to have it a bit more sturdy.

Looks better on TV than it really is... [Posted on 2008-06-12]
I've seen this thing on TV for years now it seems like and always thought it'd be nice to have. I finally picked one up since I often like to eat or use my laptop from our living room chair.

Well, when I first picked up the box at the store, I knew I'd likely be in for trouble because the printing was awful (colors wrong and misaligned) and there was plenty of obvious misspellings as well ("Computer Wo Kstation"). I decided that the product itself still looked good, so I tried to ignore the lousy packaging.

Once I got it unpacked, I was immediately disappointed in how cheaply made it was. The plastic table is VERY flimsy. It will support your laptop, dinner plates, etc (maybe not a couple large college text books, though, I'm not sure), but will bend and sway in the process.

The aluminum legs on mine are discolored in places and can be quite difficult to adjust even though the commercials make it look incredibly easy. On top of all that, it's not sturdy at all. It won't fall over, assuming you don't have all the weight on one side, but you'll find it leans and rocks with even the slightest movement.

Once last complaint is how it folds up. They make it look as if this will simply fold up with minimal effort and glide effortlessly under furniture and the like. Well, you CAN compact it to about as small as you might think you could, but not without some work and it won't lay as flat as you would like it to, unfortunately. This part isn't terrible, just a bit disappointing.

The tilt adjustment is a nice touch, but hardly makes up for all other shortcomings.

In the end, it'd be okay if you don't plan on using it ALL the time or just need a little table to eat from or something. The WORST part is the cost. It's hardly worth the retail price. Perhaps 1/3 of retail would be reasonable, but that's as high as I'd be willing to pay and be okay with how this thing performs. If it didn't look and feel so cheaply made, I could be okay with the cost, but just looking at it, you know it's poorly constructed.

I was very satisfied with the Table Mate II.
It is a lot sturdier then it looks in the picture.
I use it every day.

Table Mate II - not so great [Posted on 2008-07-28]
This product turned out to be a lot flimsier and less stable than I had expected. The dimensions are right, the base fits under the couch/bed, wherever you're sitting and for that purpose it works. However, I wouldn't advise putting anything requiring a level surface on top of it, such as a beverage or food item. At it's finished position, the top surface is not flat or level. It's more like an easel at a slight downward angle so things have a tendency to slip off. I tried adjusting both the legs and the top surface but it never achieved a steady surface level.
It's fine for propping up books or magazines, but that's about it. Not worth the money as a couple of crates could do the same job.
